Summary“The studies of Quranic exegesis in Bosnia-Hercegovina and Kosova since the beginnig of the 20 th century”is the subgect of this thesis. The thesis consists of a preface, introducti on and in addition, two chapters. In the introductory chapter we tried to define the subgect matter, and provided summary information. As with regard to the other chapters, we thougth it would be proger to divide under the two main headings in order to deal with them properly. In the first chapter we dealt with the political background of Bosnia-Hersegovina and Kosova (Balkan in general). The ethnic structure of these areas, especially was our concern, the history of islam in these regions. In addition, with the conception of islam, the intention was to clarify the process of scholary activity throughout the region's history. The main subgect of the thesis is dealt with in chapter II (two). Here the intention was to deal with the lives of Quranic commentators their wosks; and their contributior to the science of exegesis. These are the commentators that are dealth with respectively. Şükrü Alagiç, Muhammed Tufo, Cemalüddin Çavuşoviç, Mehmet Hancic, Hüseyin Cozo and Şerif Ahmedi while dealing with the life of the mufassirs (i.e. commentators) the political conditions prevailing at the time were taken into consideration. In the conduding chapter, a summary of the methadology "which was adopted is given; together with the apportunities which were available withe respect to the sources are discussed.
