For the specialist in abstract groups, they provide the means forfocussing attention on properties of â¦nite homomorphic images, and sometimesfor derving strong results having no obvious connection with â¦nite images. Forthe number theorist, proâ¦nite groups are the groups which arise as Galois groupsof algebraic â¦eld extensions.
