Özet

ÖZET Bu tezin amacı, Beckett`in karakterlerinin modern insanı yansıttığım göstermek olup, çalışma yazarın bir perdelik beş sahne oyununa dayandırılmıştır. Bunlar: A Piece of Monologue, Rockabv. Ohio Impromptu. Catastrophe ve What Where'dir. Giriş bölümünde eserlerinde yansıdığı şekliyle Beckett'in insan ve hayat hakkındaki düşünceleri ve son döneminde yazdığı bir perdelik sahne oyunları tanıtılmıştır. Samuel Beckett bu beş oyununda, modern insanın problemlerinden söz ederek, ona göre insan kavramının ne olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Modern insan zamanı ve kendisi tükenene dek, baştan sona acı, sıkıntı ve başarısızlıkla dolu bir hayatı anlamsız ve acımasız bir dünyada yaşamaya mahkum edilmiştir, iletişim kurmak olanaksız olduğundan, bu insan, huzuru ve gerçeği kendi benliğinde ve beyninin derinliklerinde arar. Kendini bulma cabası içinde kıvranan insan, içe dönük bir yaşam hayal eder. Fakat asla varoluşun ve hayatın anlamına ulaşamadığından bütün ümitlerini yitirir. Konuşması, zamanı ve gücü giderek azalan modern insan için hiçlik ve ölümden başka bir kurtuluş kalmaz. ıı

Özet (Çeviri)

ABSTRACT The present study is based on the argument that Beckett's characters are s reflection of modern man. This hypothesis Is Illustrated In five one-act stage plays of Samuel Beckett A Piece of Monologue, Rockabv, Ohio Impromptu, Catastrophe and What Where. In the introduction part Beckett's ideas of man and life as reflected in his works and an outline of his latest one- act stage plays are presented. In the following chapters, each of which is a study of the plays concerned, it is pointed out that Samuel Beckett emphasizes his concept of man by introducing the problems of modern man who lives in a repetitive pattern of suffering, boredom, failure until both time and man are used up. In a world where no communication Is possible, man turns to himself and seeks for comfort and truth“in the profounds of mind”. The characters imagine a kind of living m the inner self or mind, so they are involved in a constant search for the self but being unable to find it, they lose all their hopes. As language, time and the strength of the human being decreases gradually and reaches the point of“nothing”,“death”becomes the only- possible way of salvation. Ill
