Özet
Çalışma, toplu konut mimarisi üzerine yapılan bir incelemedir. Toplumsal yapıda meydana gelen sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve siyasal değişimlerin barınma kültürü üzerindeki etkileri ele alınmıştır. Çağdaş toplu konut yerleşmelerinin tasarım sürecinde göz önünde bulundurulması gereken kriterlerin belirlenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Endüstri Devrimi sonrası Avrupa ve ana hatlarıyla Türkiye'deki süreç üzerinde durulmuş; 19. ve 20. yüzyılda yapılan çalışmalar aktarılmıştır. Konut yerleşmelerinin ve birim konutun geçirdiği değişimler, toplumsal değişimler ile birlikte incelenmiştir. Çalışmada izlenilen yöntem, ilgili literatürün taranması yoluyla ana temaların ve başlıca örneklerin tespiti ve irdelenmesidir. 19. ve 20. yüzyıl konut deneyimi gelecekteki çalışmalar için zengin bir kaynak olarak kabul edilmiştir. Son 30 yılda tartışmaların merkezinde kimlik, aidiyet, süreklilik gibi temalar yer almıştır. Sonuç olarak, söz konusu temalar ışığında, toplu konut tasarımında yer, katılımcılık, esneklik, değişebilirlik gibi kavramların göz önünde bulundurulması gereği vurgulanmıştır.

This thesis is a research about the architecture of mass housing. The effects of social, cultural, economic and political changes in social structure to dwelling culture is considered. The definition of criterias to be considered during the design process of contemporary mass housing sites is aimed. The process in Europe and generally in Turkey after the Industrial Revolution is explained; the developments in 19* and 20th centuries are described. The changes at housing sites and house unit are taken into consideration together with the social changes. The method of the thesis is the analysis of the main themes and significant examples by searching the related literature. The housing experience of 19th and 2001 centuries is accepted as a rich source for future studies. During the last three decades, themes such as identity, belongingness, continuity have been at the center of the discussions. Finally, the necessity of considering the concepts such as place, participation, flexibility, changeability in the mass housing design process is emphasized.
