Özet
IV ÖZET Bu araştırmada öğretmen ve öğrencilerin görüşleri alınarak orta öğretim kurumlarında Lise 1. ve Lise 2. sımf biyoloji derslerinin yöntem, program, araç-gereç ve öğrenci katılımı yönlerinden bugünkü durumu değerlendirilmiştir. Bu kurumlarda biyoloji öğretim programının genel amaçlarına ulaşılma derecesi, uygulanan öğretim yöntemlerinin öğretimi gerçekleştirmedeki yeterliliği, derslerde kullanılan araç- gereçlerin niteliği ve kullanılma sıklığı ile öğrencilerin biyoloji dersine olan ilgi ve katılımının belirlenmesi amacıyla öğretmen ve öğrencilere uygulanmak üzere iki anket formu hazırlanmıştır. Hazırlanan anketler Kocaeli'de 17 orta öğretim kurumunda görev yapan 34 biyoloji öğretmeni ile 180 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Sonuçta, biyoloji öğretiminde geleneksel yöntemler olan düz anlatım ve soru-cevap yöntemlerinin yaygın olarak kullanıldığı tespit edilmiş, buna karşın öğrencinin yaparak- yaşayarak ve gözleyerek öğrenmesi için gerekli olan bilimsel yöntemlerden gezi- gözlem, proje, soruşturma ve deneye dayalı lâboratuvar çalışmalarına çok az yer verildiği ve bu eksikliğin ise okullardaki ders araç-gereçleri ile lâboratuvar alanlarının yetersizliğinden kaynaklandığı belirlenmiştir. Lise 1. ve 2. sımf biyoloji öğretiminde kullanılan yöntemlerin ve ders araç-gereçlerinin yetersizliğinin öğrencilerin biyoloji derslerine ilgi ve katılımını olumsuz yönde etkilediği ve öğretim programının amaçlarına yeterince ulaşılamadığı sonucuna varılmıştır.

ABSTRACT In this study, the current status of the biology lesson concerning the method, curriculum, laboratory equipment and student participation is investigated. Two questionnaires, one for teachers and the other for students, are prepared to determine the degree of achievement of the general goals of the biology curriculum, the sufficiency of the instructional methods in the realization of the education, the frequency of the laboratory equipment employment and the quality of the laboratory equipment, and the interest and participation of the students to the biology lessons. The questionnaires are conducted to 34 biology teachers and 180 students, which are selected from 17 high schools in Kocaeli. The results of this study show that the lecture and question-answer methods are commonly used in the biology lessons. Conversely, scientific methods, such as field trip-observation, project, investigation, and experimental studies, necessary for the learning of the student via doing, experiencing, and observing are rarely used. This problem arises from the deficiency of the educational equipment and the laboratories. The insufficiency of the methods and equipment used in the biology education in the first and second grades of the lycees negatively influenced the interest and participation of the students to the biology lessons. As a result, the aims of the biology education curriculum are not adequately achieved.
