Özet
Bu çalışmada, üslupları açısından Dennis Ressamı'na ait olan altı lahit incelenmiştir. Bu lahitlerden üç tanesi (D.l, D.2, D.3) daha önce bir çok defa yayınlanmıştır. Ancak buna karşın sanatçının stilinin ayrıntılı bir incelemesi yapılmamıştır. Klazomenai ve çevresinden gelen üç yeni lahit (D.4 D.5, D. 6), Dennis Ressamının stilinin ve kendisinin diğer sanatçılarla olan ilişkilerinin daha belirgin bir şekilde anlaşılmasına olanak tanımaktadır. Sanatçının erken eserlerindeki figürler, dolgun bir vücut yapısına sahiptirler. Bunun yanısıra söz konusu figürlerin en ince ayrıntılarına kadar işlendikleri de dikkat çekmektedir. Ressamın erken eserlerindeki kompozisyonlar oldukça kalabalık ve gösterişlidir. Sanatçının kariyerinde geçe gidildikçe figürlerin dolgunluklarını kaybettikleri, incelip uzadıkları gözlenmektedir. Sanatçının kompozisyonları da bu duruma paralel olarak hafifleyip sadeleşmektedir. Dennis Ressamı'nın erken eserleri ile geç eserleri arasındaki stil farklılığının nedeni, kendisinin muhtemelen uzun bir kariyere sahip olmasından ve buna ilaveten belki de belirli kalıplar içinde standart figürler çizmemeye dönük eğilimden kaynaklanmaktadır. Yıldıztepe Nekropolisi'nde anakaya üzerinde ele geçen D.4, nekropolün tabakalan masına göre, M.ö. 547/6 tarinden daha önceki bir döneme ait olmalıdır. Bu lahidin stil özellikleriyle ve siyah figür tekniğini kullanması nedeniyle, yüzyılın ikinci yarısına ait olması beklenebilecek D.5'ten daha erken olduğu düşünülmektedir. D.5 ise D.4'den hemen sonraya ait olmalıdır. Klazomenai, Akpınar Nekropolisi'nde bulunan parçalar halindeki D.6 lahidine eşlik eden herhangi bir mezar hediyesi söz konusu değildir. Bu lahit, hem stil yoluyla, hem de Akpınar Nekropolisi'nin tarihsel süreci içinde muhtemelen M.ö. 6-yüzyılın son çeyreğinin başlarına veya 530'Iara ait olmalıdır. Klazomenai'de eski sistemsiz kazılarda ele geçen D.3, D.2 ve D.l örnekleri, erken lahitler olan D.4, D.5, ve D.6 ile olan stil bağlantılarına göre sanatçının geç dönem eserleri olarak değerlendirilmişlerdir. Klazomenai Hamdi Balaban Tarlası'ndaki 2000 yılı kazılarında ele geçen siyah figür tekniğindeki bir kapaktan yola çıkılarak, D.3, M.ö. 530 sonrasına tarih lenmelidir. D.l ise, kompozisyonunun rahatlığıyla ve figürlerin uzun yapılarıyla, Klazomenai siyah figürünün geç bir grubu olan Enmann sınıfına yakınlık gösterir. Sonuç olarak, bu verilerin ışığında, Dennis Ressamı'nın kariyerinin M.ö. 550 ile 520 yıllan arasında sürmüş olduğu önerilebilir.

The main aim of this study is the analysis of the style of Dennis Painter, who was among the prolific artists of terracotta sarcophagi of Clazomenae conventionally dated to the late archaic period. Among the works of the artist, the three sarcophagi (D.l, D.2, D.3) were published and illustrated many times before. Still however, there is no thorough study devoted to artist's career, style and finally chronology. Three new sarcophagi (D.4, D.5, D.6) uncovered at Clazomenae and her surroundings have a significant place in particular for the artistic career of Dennis Painter. These examples offer new insights especially for the development of his style and his place among the other individuals who were also sarcophagi painters. The sarcophagus (D.4) was found in Yıldıztepe necropolis in early 1980s at Clazomenae, plays significant role, for the argument of style and chronology of the Dennis Painter. Overall analysis of excavations at Yıldıztepe necropolis suggests a date earlier than 550 for this piece and also other ornate examples found at a deepest level, directly over the bedrock in the same area. An ornate sarcophagus D.5, which was uncovered in a tumulus in illicit excavations near Ozbek village close to Clazomenae, is rather large in size and have elaborate decoration all over. This example appears to be the early work of the artist and belongs to a stage which allows us to identify his style in panels made in black figured style and also old mannered reserving style. The sarcophagus from Yıldıztepe which has decorations in reserving animal all over should be slightly earlier than D.5, coming from Özbek, which could only be dated on stylistic grounds. Therefore, Özbek sarcophagus should be placed about a decade later than D.4 Finally the last piece (D.6) which was found in the recent campaigns of excavations at Akpinar Necropolis in Clazomenae originally comes from a disturbed burial without any associated grave goods. The sequence of burials attested in this new cemetery at the site, however, suggests a date somewhere in the beginning of the last quarter of the sixth century for this new piece by the Dennis Painter. In conclusion, the overall analysis of Clazomenian terracotta sarcophagi attributed to the artist, suggests an approximate date between 550-520 BC for the career of Dennis Painter.
