Özet
Bu çalışma, 1920'li yıllarda Fransa'da doğan ve kısa sürede tüm dünyayı etkisi altına alan Art Deco akımının iç mekan tasarımı, mobilya ve donatılar üzerindeki yansımalarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Sanayi Devrimi sonrası makineleşme ile geleneksel el işçiliğinin sentezlendiği bu dönem, tasarım tarihinde“modern lüksün”zirvesi olarak kabul edilir. Art Deco, Art Nouveau'nun organik formlarına tepki olarak doğmuş; kübizmin geometrik formlarından, fütürizmin hız tutkusundan ve egzotik kültürlerin (Mısır, Aztek, Afrika) etkilerinden beslenmiştir. Çalışmada, akımın sadece bir süsleme sanatı değil, aynı zamanda iki dünya savaşı arası dönemin sosyo-ekonomik yapısını ve burjuvazinin yükselen yaşam standartlarını yansıtan bir yaşam biçimi olduğu vurgulanmaktadır. Art Deco mobilyaları, malzeme çeşitliliği ve kontrast kullanımı ile karakterize edilir. Tez kapsamında incelenen temel malzeme unsurları; geometrik disiplin, simetri ve stilize motifler ile birleşerek, tasarımda işlevsellik ve estetiğin kusursuz bir dengeyle harmanlandığı özgün bir iç mekan dili oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma, mobilyayı mekandan bağımsız düşünmez; aydınlatma elemanları, tekstil ürünleri ve yer döşemeleri gibi donatıların mobilyalarla kurduğu kompozisyonu inceler. Özellikle geometrik desenli halılar ve opal camlı ikonik aydınlatma armatürlerinin mekanın atmosferine katkısı ele alınmaktadır. Art Deco, geçmişin zanaat mirasını geleceğin endüstriyel estetiğiyle birleştirerek günümüz modern mobilya tasarımına da temel oluşturmuştur. Bu tez, seçilen örnekler üzerinden dönemin tasarım dilini çözümleyerek, bu üslubun günümüz iç mekan tasarımlarına sağladığı referansları ortaya koymaktadır.

This study aims to examine the reflections of the Art Deco movement, which emerged in France in the 1920s and rapidly influenced the entire world, on interior design, furniture, and fittings. This period, in which traditional craftsmanship was synthesized with mechanization following the Industrial Revolution, is considered the pinnacle of“modern luxury”in design history. Art Deco arose as a reaction to the organic forms of Art Nouveau, drawing inspiration from the geometric forms of Cubism, the passion for speed in Futurism, and the influences of exotic cultures such as Egypt, Aztec, and Africa. The study emphasizes that the movement was not merely a decorative art but also a lifestyle reflecting the socio-economic structure of the interwar period and the rising living standards of the bourgeoisie. Art Deco furniture is characterized by a diversity of materials and the use of contrast. The fundamental material elements examined within the scope of this thesis combine with geometric discipline, symmetry, and stylized motifs to create a unique interior design language where functionality and aesthetics are blended in perfect balance. The study does not consider furniture independently of the space; it examines the composition established between furniture and fittings such as lighting elements, textiles, and flooring. In particular, the contribution of geometrically patterned carpets and iconic opal glass lighting fixtures to the atmosphere of the space is discussed. By merging the craft heritage of the past with the industrial aesthetics of the future, Art Deco has also formed the foundation for contemporary modern furniture design. This thesis analyzes the design language of the period through selected examples and reveals the references this style provides for today's interior designs.
