Abstract In this thesis hadiths about mi'rac has been analyzed according to the hadith science criteria. Mi'rac has been investigated by dividing this event in a chronological order: before mi'rac, mi'rac and after mi'rac. These parts are discussed under separate sub-chapters. The hadiths about mi'rac have been analyzed and discussed beginning from the first written source in a historical order. The people who transferred these hadiths (ravi's) are also analyzed with respect to their truthfulness and psychological situations. Various thoughts and respects about mi'rac, which is believed as one of the fundamental issues of religion, are investigated. The Quran ayets which are said to show the mi'rac event are analyzed under the light of basic sources. The differing sides from the mi'rac event of these ayets are investigated with respect to their dates and contents. Some ayets which are even brought very after the mi'rac are said to give information about the mi'rac hadiths. We have shown that the hadiths which depend on such ayets conflict and have not any scientific value according to the scientific criteria. Mi'rac-like beliefs in other holy religions have been summarized briefly and compared with our mi'rac belief. Thereby, the possible effects of Christian and Jewish world are investigated. This investigation showed us that especially Jewish-based influences have very much effected the hadiths about mi'rac. The belief-side of mi'rac is reviewed just to give an idea. We have deduced the mistake of the respect that shows mi'rac as one of the essential issues of religious belief. In conclusion, during this thesis work, we've faced many hadiths about mi'rac which conflict with Quran, historical evidences, and human intelligence. However, we think that Hz. Muhammed has lived the mi'rac spiritually as a gift and vision. 114
