Özet

Bu çalışma, MS 650'den yaklaşık olarak MS 900'e kadar uzanan dönemde, İslam medeniyetinde bilgi geleneğinin sosyo-felsefi temelinin doğuşunu, bilimlerin sonraki gelişiminde kullanılan teknik terimler aracılığıyla incelemektedir. Bir medeniyetin kısa bir süre içinde dünya medeniyetine dönüşmesi düşünce tarihi açısından dikkate değer bir olaydır. Bunu hazırlayan faktörleri tespit etmek, İslam âlimlerinin erken dönemden itibaren evreni neden araştırma konusu yaptıklarını araştırmayı da gerektirmektedir. Dolayısıyla bu tezin amacı, İslam medeniyetinde bilimsel ilerleme için sosyal ve felsefi bir temel sağlayan sofistike bir bilgi geleneğinin ortaya çıkmasına katkıda bulunan disiplinler başta olmak üzere, genel olarak teknik terimlerin ortaya çıkış sürecini incelemektir. Çalışmamızda, 'ulemâ' ve fukahâ gibi teknik terimlerle ifade edilen Müslüman bilim camiasının bakışaçılarını dikkate alacağız. Bunun nedeni, İslam bilgi geleneğinin dini bir bağlamdan doğmuş olmasıdır. Bu sebeple, dinî terminoloji, fizik bilimleri de dâhil olmak üzere, bilimsel terminolojinin gelişiminde önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Bilgi sosyolojisi alanındaki bir çalışma olarak bu tez, İslam bilim geleneğinde yavaş yavaş ortaya çıkan temel teknik terimlerin izini sürerek, sadece ilk üç asırdaki bilimsel ilerlemeye dikkat çekecektir.

This study examines the emergence of the socio-philosophical foundation of knowledge tradition in Islamic civilization through technical terms which are utilized in later development in all sciences in the period that extends just about from 650 AD until almost 900 AD. The transformation of a civilization into a world civilization in a short period of time is a remarkable event in the history of thought. The determination of the factors that prepared it also requires an investigation of the reasons why Islamic scholars made the universe a subject of research from the early period. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to examine the process of the emergence of technical terms in general, especially in the disciplines that contributed to the emergence of a sophisticated knowledge tradition that provided a social and philosophical foundation for scientific progress in Islamic civilization. In our study, we will take into account the perspectives of the Muslim scientific community expressed in technical terms such as the 'ulamā' and the fuqahā. This is because the Islamic knowledge tradition grew out of a religious context. For this reason, religious terminology played a significant role in the development of scientific nomenclature, including physical sciences. As a study in the sociology of knowledge, this thesis will pay attention to the scientific progress only in the first three centuries, following the footsteps of mainly technical terms as they gradually unfolded in Islamic scientific tradition.
