In recent years, rapidly advancing technology and the proliferation of industrial facilities have led to the release of heavy metal-laden waste, causing significant environmental pollution in aquatic ecosystems. As a result, aquatic organisms are increasingly exposed to various pollutants, including heavy metals. Due to their toxic properties, heavy metals induce both acute and chronic effects on aquatic life. The detrimental impacts of these metals can propagate throughout the entire food chain, leading to severe ecological consequences. In this study, the toxicity of three heavy metal compounds—zinc chloride (ZnCl₂), iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO₄·7H₂O), and aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl₃·6H₂O)—was investigated using Daphnia magna, a species that plays a key role in aquatic food webs. D. magna individuals were exposed to varying concentrations of the test substances over 24, 48, and 72 hours. The 24-hour LC50 value of zinc chloride for D. magna, calculated using probit analysis, Behrens-Karber, and Treven methods, was 0.535 milligrams per litre (mg/L|), 0.615 mg/L, and 0.461 mg/L, respectively. The 24-hour and 48-hour LC50 values of iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate were determined as 98.3 mg/L and 81.10 mg/L; 99 mg/L and 81 mg/L; and 100.93 mg/L and 80.39 mg/L, respectively. For aluminum chloride hexahydrate, the 24-hour, 48-hour, and 72-hour LC50 values were 211.6 mg/L, 170.08 mg/L, and 143.37 mg/L; and 205 mg/L, 170 mg/L, and 145 mg/L, respectively, based on probit analysis and Behrens-Karber methods. The three chemical substances evaluated in this study, namely zinc chloride (ZnCl₂), iron (II) sulfate (FeSO₄), and aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl₃·6H₂O), demonstrated lethal levels of toxicity to Daphnia magna. Regression and correlation analyses indicated that toxicity increased proportionally with both concentration and exposure duration. Additionally, a comparative assessment of acute toxicity revealed the following order of potency: ZnCl₂ > FeSO₄ > AlCl₃·6H₂O.
