Özet
Günümüzde bilim ve teknolojinin gelişimiyle her alanda olduğu gibi eğitimde de bir takım yeni yöntem ve modellere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Özellikle günümüz dünyasında karşılaşılan problemlere yaratıcı ve pratik çözüm yolları üretebilen bireylere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu yüzden matematik eğitimi alanında günlük yaşamla matematiğin ilişkilendirilmesine yönelik çalışma ve yöntemlerin önemi artarak devam etmektedir. Bu yöntemlerden biri de modelleme etkinlikleridir. Model oluşturma etkinlikleri yardımıyla matematik ile günlük yaşam problemleri ilişkilendirilip bireylerin zihinlerinde problemlere en uygun modelin oluşturulmasına olanak sağlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada MEB-BİLSEM okullarında öğrenim gören ortaokul birinci sınıf öğrencilerinin matematiksel modelleme becerilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma Karadeniz Bölgesinde bulunan küçük bir ilin BİLSEM okulunda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışma en genel anlamda bir grup veya olayı derinlemesine inceleme ve analiz etme olarak tanımlanan durum (case study) çalışmasıdır. Ortaokul birinci sınıflardan oluşan 12 öğrenci dörder kişilik gruplara ayrılarak toplam 4 haftalık ön çalışma süreci gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ön çalışma sürecinde gruplara her hafta farklı bir model oluşturma etkinliği verilerek grupların matematiksel model oluşturma deneyimi kazanması amaçlanmıştır. Ön çalışma süreci sonunda yapılan gözlemler neticesinde dörder kişilik iki grup amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle asıl çalışma için seçilmiştir. Pastacılar Yarışıyor model oluşturma etkinliği iki odak gruba da verilerek üzerinde çalışmaları istenmiştir. Süreç video ve ses kaydı ile kayıt altına alınmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular Blum ve Ferri'nin (2009) model oluşturma döngüsü ile nitel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre her iki odak grubun da problemi anlama aşamasında zorlandığı tespit edilmiştir. Gruplar problem metnini tam olarak anlamadan problemde verilen tablo ve grafik gibi görsel verilere odaklanmışlardır. Model oluşturma aşamasında farklı varsayımlar üretip bunları analiz ederek değerlendirmiş fakat matematiksel hesaplamalarda zorlandıkları belirlenmiştir. Her iki grup da çalışma süreci boyunca fikirlerini özgürce ifade etmiş, iş birliği içerisinde çalışmış ve keyifli vakit geçirdiklerini ifade etmişlerdir.

Today, with the development of science and technology, a number of new methods and models are needed in education as in every field. Especially in today's world, there is a need for individuals who can produce creative and practical solutions to the problems encountered. For this reason, the importance of studies and methods for associating mathematics with daily life in the field of mathematics education continues to increase. One of these methods is modeling activities. With the help of model eliciting activities (MEAs), individuals are enabled to create the most appropriate abstract model in their minds for the problems associated with mathematics and daily life. This study aimed to examine the mathematical modeling skills of first grade middle school students studying at MEB-BILSEM schools. The research was conducted in a BİLSEM school in a small province in the Black Sea Region. This study is a case study, which is defined as an in-depth examination and analysis of a group or event in the most general sense. Twelve first grade middle school students were divided into groups of four and a total of 4 weeks of pre-study process was carried out. During the preliminary study period, a different model eliciting activity was given to the groups every week in order for the groups to gain experience in mathematical model building. As a result of the observations made at the end of the preliminary study process, two groups of four were selected for the main study by purposive sampling method. The Pastry Chefs Compete, a model eliciting activity was given to both focus groups and they were asked to work on it. The process was recorded with video and audio recordings. The findings were analyzed qualitatively with Blum and Ferri's modeling cycle. According to the results of the study, both focus groups had difficulty in understanding the problem. The groups focused on visual data such as tables and graphs given in the problem without fully understanding the problem text. In the model eliciting phase, they generated different assumptions and analyzed and evaluated them, but they had difficulty in mathematical calculations. Both groups expressed their ideas freely, worked in cooperation and had a pleasant time during the study process.
