Özet
Bu çalışmada, Necîb Mahfûz'un Leyali Elf Leyle adlı eserinin Türkçe ve İngilizce çevirileri, çeviri göstergebilimsel yöntem kullanılarak karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde analiz edilmektedir. Araştırma nitel bir yaklaşıma sahiptir ve doküman incelemesi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Leyali Elf Leyle adlı özgün eserin yanı sıra Türkçe ve İngilizce çevirileri içermektedir. Veriler, betimsel analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın temelinde göstergebilim alanına önemli katkılarda bulunan Ferdinand de Saussure ve Paris Göstergebilim Okulu'nun kuramsal yaklaşımlarından yararlanılmıştır. Tezin ana amacı, Mahfûz'un eserinin çevirilerinde özgün metindeki göstergelerin ne derece yansıtıldığını incelemek ve çeviri sürecinde oluşan anlam değişimlerini tespit etmektir. Leyali Elf Leyle romanı, Binbir Gece Masalları'ndan esinlenilmiş olup hem özgün ve yaratıcı unsurlarıyla hem de kültürel ve sembolik zenginliğiyle bu tür bir analize uygun bir örnek olarak seçilmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümü, çeviri göstergebilimi kuramlarına dayanmaktadır. Bu bölümde, çeviri sırasında karşılaşılan sorunlar ve göstergelerin çeviriye aktarılmasında meydana gelen anlam kayıpları ele alınmaktadır. Ebrar Ayyıldız'ın geliştirdiği“gösterge temelli anlam değiştirici girişimler ölçeği”çerçevesinde, çeviri metinlerindeki anlam değişimleri analiz edilmiştir. Bu dizgesellik, özgün metindeki göstergelerin erek metinlere aktarılırken uğradığı vi değişiklikleri tespit etmeye yönelik bir yöntem sunmaktadır. Çalışmada metinler belirli kesitlere bölünerek analiz edilmektedir. Kesitleme yöntemi ile anlam dünyası detaylı bir şekilde çözümlenmiş ve başlıklar ile ara başlıklar üzerinden anlamlandırma yapılmıştır. Ayrıca öznelik dönüşümleri ve gerçeğe uygunluk sınıflaması gibi göstergelerin analizine dayalı yöntemlerle metin ayrıntılı bir şekilde incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, göstergebilimsel analiz ile metinler arasındaki ilişkiler değerlendirilmiş ve çevirilerin özgün metnin anlam evrenini ne derece yansıttığı sorgulanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, çeviri sürecinde kullanılan“gösterge temelli anlam değiştirici girişimler ölçeği”yöntemiyle özgün metinden çeviri metinlere geçişte yaşanan değişmeler ve anlam kayıpları incelenmiştir. Toplamda 525 örnek üzerinden yürütülen çalışmada, 175 örnek özgün metinden ve geri kalan 350'si Türkçe ve İngilizce çevirilerden alınmıştır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, çevirmenlerin anlam değişimlerini fark ederek çeviri sürecinde daha bilinçli kararlar almalarına katkıda bulunmaktır. Sonuç bölümünde ise tespit edilen anlam değişimlerinin sebepleri ve sonuçları değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular çerçevesinde, çeviri göstergebilim yönteminin, çevirmenlere ve çeviri süreçlerine katkıları değerlendirilmiş ve disiplinler arası çalışmalara katkısı vurgulanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, göstergebilim ve çeviribilim arasındaki iş birliğinin çeviride anlam kayıplarını en aza indirmek için kullanılabileceği ve bu konuda farkındalığın artırılması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

In this study, the Turkish and English translations of Najīb Mahfūz's Layālī Alf Layla are analyzed comparatively using the translation semiotics method. The research adopts a qualitative approach and employs the document analysis technique. The sample for the study consists of the original text of Layālī Alf Layla along with its Turkish and English translations. The data are evaluated through the descriptive analysis method. The theoretical foundations of the study are based on the contributions of Ferdinand de Saussure and the Paris School of Semiotics, who have made significant contributions to the field of semiotics. The main aim of this thesis is to examine to what extent the signs in Mahfūz's original work are reflected in the translations and to identify the meaning shifts that occur during the translation process. Layālī Alf Layla, inspired by The Thousand and One Nights, was selected as a suitable example for such an analysis due to its rich symbolic and cultural content as well as its original creative elements. The second part of the study is based on translation semiotics theories. In this section, the challenges encountered during translation and the meaning losses that may occur in the transfer of signs into translation are discussed. The analysis of meaning changes in the translated texts is carried out within the framework of the“sign-based meaning-changing interventions scale”developed by Ebrar Ayyıldız. This systematics provides a method for detecting the changes that signs undergo as they are transferred from the source text to the target texts. In the study, the texts are divided into specific sections and analyzed. Through the viii segmentation method, the semantic world of the text is thoroughly examined, and meaning is interpreted based on headings and subheadings. Additionally, the text is analyzed in detail through methods based on the examination of subjective transformations and the classification of verisimilitude. Using semiotic analysis, the relationships between the texts are evaluated, and the extent to which the translations reflect the meaning universe of the original text is questioned. In this context, the“sign-based meaning-changing interventions scale”is applied to examine the changes and meaning losses that occur during the transition from the original text to the translated texts. The study is based on the analysis of 525 examples, 175 from the original text and the remaining 350 from the Turkish and English translations. The main objective of this research is to help translators become more aware of these meaning shifts and make more informed decisions during the translation process. In the conclusion section, the reasons and outcomes of the identified meaning changes are assessed. Based on the findings, the contributions of the translation semiotics method to both translators and translation processes are evaluated, and the study is highlighted as an example of interdisciplinary work. It is concluded that the collaboration between semiotics and translation studies can be utilized to minimize meaning losses during translation, and that raising awareness on this issue is essential.
