Özet
Bu eser metni çalışmasında trompetin çağdaş müzik eserlerindeki yeri ve kullanımı araştırılmış olup, Stanley Friedman'ın“Solus”adlı eserinin teknik ve yorumsal incelemesi yapılmıştır. Müzisyen, şef ve aynı zamanda besteci olan S. Friedman,“Solus”adlı eseriyle çağdaş dönem trompet repertuvarına değerli bir eser kazandırmıştır. Eser, dünyanın pek çok yerinde düzenlenen trompet yarışmalarında ya da trompet sınavlarında çalınması zorunlu tutulan modern bir eserdir. Eser aynı zamanda farklı karakteristik özelliklere ve değişik stillere sahiptir. Bu çalışmada, çağdaş müzik eserlerinde trompetin kullanımını açıklamak ve S. Friedman'ın“Solus”adlı modern eserini teknik açıdan analiz edip inceleyerek, eseri seslendirmek isteyen trompet icracıları için pasajların daha iyi yorumlanabilmesine yardımcı olmak amaçlanmıştır. İlk olarak, trompetin ortaya çıkış ve gelişim sürecinden kısaca bahsedilmiş ve çağdaş müzikte trompetin nasıl kullanıldığına değinilmiştir. Devamında ise, çağdaş müziğin tarihsel gelişimi, çağdaş müzikte yer alan bazı teorik kuramlar, çağdaş trompet teknikleri ve çağdaş müziğe zemin hazırlayan önemli besteciler eserleri ile birlikte ele alınmıştır. Son olarak, Stanley Friedman'ın biyografisine değinilip, bestecinin“Solus”adlı eserinin teknik açıdan analizi ve incelemesi yapılmış, bu eserde kullanılan çağdaş müzik tekniklerinden ve çağdaş trompet tekniklerinden bahsedilmiş, eserin daha rahat ve daha iyi icra edilebilmesi için çalışma yöntemleri önerilmiştir. Bu eser metninin oluşum aşamasında, yurt içi ve yurt dışı kaynaklardan, makalelerden ve tezlerden yararlanılmıştır. Ülkemizde S. Friedman ve S. Friedman'ın“Solus”adlı eserine dair Türkçe olarak yeterli kaynak bulunmaması sebebiyle eser metnimi bu konuda seçmiş bulunmaktayım. Yazmış olduğum eser metni ile ülkemizde S. Friedman'ın“Solus”isimli eserini çalmak isteyen icracılar için bir kaynak olması ve bu eserin çağdaş müzik bağlamında incelenmesini sağlayarak trompet litaratürüne kazandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Eseri daha iyi icra edebilmek için, teknik olarak çalabilmenin yanında, eser ile alakalı diğer unsurları da öğrenmek ve bilmek bir o kadar önemlidir. Eserin bestecisini ve bestelendiği dönemi gerek müzikal gerek teknik açıdan tüm detaylarıyla aydınlatarak icracıya her yönüyle ışık olması bu eser metninin yazılmasındaki temel amaç olmuştur.

This study delves into the role, significance, and diverse applications of the trumpet in contemporary music while providing a comprehensive technical and interpretive analysis of Stanley Friedman's“Solus”. As a multifaceted musician, a performer, conductor, and composer, S. Friedman has made an invaluable contribution to the modern trumpet repertoire with“Solus”. This distinctive and influential composition has been widely recognized on an international scale and is frequently included as a required piece in numerous trumpet competitions, conservatory entrance examinations, and performance assessments around the world. The work stands out not only for its technical demands but also for its stylistic versatility, incorporating various musical elements that challenge and inspire trumpet players. The primary objective of this study is to provide an in-depth exploration of the trumpet's role in contemporary compositions by using“Solus”as a case study, offering a detailed technical analysis that will aid trumpet performers in interpreting and executing the piece more effectively. By doing so, this research seeks to bridge the gap between technical proficiency and artistic interpretation, ensuring that performers approach the work with a holistic understanding of its structure, historical context, and expressive potential. To lay the groundwork for this analysis, the study first provides a historical overview of the trumpet, tracing its evolution from its early origins to its current role in contemporary music. This section highlights the instrument's transformation across different musical periods, emphasizing how its technical capabilities and expressive potential have expanded over time. Following this, the study explores the development of contemporary music as a broader genre, examining key theoretical concepts, stylistic movements, and innovative approaches that have shaped modern compositions. Additionally, it discusses the evolution of contemporary trumpet techniques, including extended techniques such as multiphonics, flutter tonguing, microtonality, and unconventional articulations. These advancements have allowed composers to push the boundaries of trumpet performance, creating new expressive possibilities that challenge traditional playing methods. Furthermore, the study investigates the contributions of significant composers who have paved the way for contemporary music, analyzing their works and their influence on modern trumpet repertoire. This contextual analysis helps to situate“Solus”within the larger framework of contemporary music, demonstrating its importance within this evolving tradition. A crucial component of this research is the detailed examination of Stanley Friedman's background, musical philosophy, and compositional style. By exploring his biography and artistic influences, the study provides insights into the creative process behind“Solus”and the elements that make it a unique and significant work in the trumpet literature. The technical analysis of“Solus”includes an exploration of its structure, phrasing, articulation, dynamics, and rhythmic complexities. Special attention is given to the contemporary music techniques utilized in the piece, as well as the specific trumpet techniques required for an effective performance. The study also presents practical suggestions and practice strategies to help performers navigate the technical and interpretative challenges of the work, offering step-by-step recommendations for mastering its demanding passages. In the preparation of this thesis, an extensive review of scholarly sources, including academic articles, dissertations, and research papers from both domestic and international origins was conducted. The lack of sufficient Turkish-language resources on Stanley Friedman and his work“Solus”in our country was a significant motivating factor in selecting this research topic. Given the prominence of“Solus”in contemporary trumpet performance, it is essential to provide Turkish musicians with a well-rounded resource that not only enhances their technical execution but also deepens their understanding of the work's artistic and historical significance. Ultimately, the purpose of this study is to serve as a valuable reference for performers in our country who wish to interpret and perform“Solus”, offering them a comprehensive guide that extends beyond technical execution. By thoroughly examining the composer, the era in which the piece was written, and the musical and technical aspects of the composition, this research aspires to illuminate every facet of the work, enabling trumpet players to approach it with confidence, insight, and artistic sensibility. Through this effort, the study aims to contribute to the national literature on contemporary music and trumpet performance, fostering a greater appreciation for modern trumpet repertoire among musicians, educators, and researchers alike.
