Özet
167 ÖZET Bu çalışma Başkent Üniversitesi İngilizce Hazırlık Okulu'nda okutulan ders kitaplarını tamamlamak için hazırlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Başkent Üniversitesi ingilizce Hazırlık Okulu'nda kullanılan Headway serisinin dinleme-anlama becerisine yönelik eksik noktalarını giderebilmek için ek aktiviteler geliştirmektedir. Bu çalışmada altı bölüm vardır. I. bölüm tartışma konusu olan problemi sunmakta, çalışmanın kapsamını ve methodunu belirtmekte ve bu problemin varsayımlarını göstermektedir. II. bölümde çalışmaya temel oluşturması açısından konu ile ilgili farklı bilgiler araştırılarak kuramsal çerçeve oluşturulmuştur. Bu bölümde dinleme- anlama becerisinin İngiliz Dili Eğitimi tarihçesindeki gelişimi belirtilmektedir. III. bölümde Başkent Üniversitesi İngilizce Hazırlık Okulu'ndaki mevcut sistem öğrenciler, öğretmenler, ders kitapları ve sınavlar açısından ele alınarak incelenmiştir. IV. bölümde veri toplamada kullanılan anketlerin ve nasıl toplandığı ve nasıl analiz edildiği yorumlanarak gösterilmektedir. Tezin V. bölümünde öğrencilere uygulanan anketlerin sonucunda elde edilen verilere dayanarak uygun ve tamamlayıcı dinleme-anlama aktiviteleri sunulmaktadır. Tezin VI. bölümü ise tüm çalışmanın genel olarak özetlendiği sonuç bölümünü oluşturmaktadır.

166 ABSTRACT This study is formed out to supplement the coursebooks which are being studied and taught at the English Language School of Başkent University. It aims to find out and supplement the shortcomings of the coursebooks (Headway Series) in terms of listening sections. The study has six chapters. The first chapter presents the problem which is dealt with throughout this study. Chapter I also states the scope and the method of the study as well as the assumptions of the problems. In Chapter II, the development of listening skill through the history of ELT is presented by the help of a review of the relevant literature. In Chapter III, the general system of education at the English Language School of Başkent University is stated. Moreover, some information about the students, instructors, materials and exams is given. The treatment of listening skill in the present system is also presented. In Chapter IV, the analysis of data collected from the students through the questionnaires and two action researches is stated. Besides, this chapter states how the data collected and analyzed in detail. Chapter V, suggests various types of supplementary listening activities which are based on the findings of the questionnaires and two action researches. Chapter VI, which is the conclusion part of this study, summarizes the study.
