Özet

Covert narcissism, self-rumination, anger rumination, depressive tendencies, shame, and guilt feelings are psychological constructs associated with negative outcomes such as impaired social functioning and increased risk of psychopathology. Since, previous research examined these concepts disjointly the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between covert narcissism and depressive tendencies and to explore the mediating effects of self-rumination, anger rumination, shame, and guilt feelings in this relationship. 103 young adult participants recruited through multiple sources and completed a series of questionnaires. The design of this study is correlational with multiple mediators. It was analyzed by using mediation model. Most of the variables of this study correlated with each other. The results rejected the present study's main hypothesis. It is found that covert narcissism is positively correlated with depressive tendencies, and it also has a direct effect on depressive tendencies as previous research showed but self-rumination, anger rumination, and shame and guilt proneness did not mediate this relationship. Therefore, according to the findings, the links between covert narcissism and depressive tendencies are not stronger when self-rumination, anger rumination, shame, and guilt feelings are present. These results can give alternative ideas for clinical interventions that aim to reduce dysfunctions related with covert narcissism by considering mediator factors of this study.
