Serhat SERTER Sinema Televizyon Anabilim Dalı Anadolu Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Temmuz 1999 Danışman: Prof. Dr. Seçil Büker Şiddet ve sevgi, yaşamın temelini oluşturan ve insanlarda her an var olan duygulardır. Bu yüzden de, insanı ve insan yaşamını yansıtan, konularını buradan seçen sinema, bu iki ana temaya çok sık başvurur. Özellikle şiddet, başlangıcından beri sinemada çok sık kullanılan bir öğedir. Ancak 1970'li yılların başından itibaren filmlerde şiddet öğesinin kullanımı çok büyük bir artış göstermiştir. Sevgi öğesinin bu tarz filmlerdeki kullanım amacı, konuyu zenginleştirmek ve izlenmeyi kolaylaştırmaktır. Luc Besson ise, 80'li ve 90'lı yıllarda yaptığı filmlerle bu duruma yeni bir bakış açısı getirmiştir. Onun filmlerinde, son 20 yılda yapılan ve şiddet öğesini içeren filmlerin aksine şiddet bir amaç değil, araçtır. Sevgi ise filmin verilmek istenen ana mesajı, yani aracı değil amacıdır. Luc Besson'un bunu filmlerinde nasıl başardığı bir sorun olarak belirmiştir. Bu sorun çerçevesinde, Besson'un şiddet ve sevgi öğelerini filmlerine ne şekilde yansıttığım göstermek ve filmlerdeki bu öğelerin ne tür bir ilişki içinde olduğunu belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, Bulgular ve Yorum Bölümü'nde öncelikle şiddet ile sevgi kavramları, kuramsal açıdan tanımları ve türleriyle incelenmiştir. Daha sonra ise Luc Besson sineması hakkında bir değerlendirme yapılarak, yönetmenin seçilen beş filmi, şiddet ve sevginin kuramsal açıklamaları temel alınarak çözümlenmiştir. Sonuç Bölümü'nde ise yargı ve önerilere yer verilmiştir.

ABSTRACT THE REPRESENTATION OF VIOLENCE AND LOVE IN LUC BESSON'S FILMS S. Serhat SERTER Cinema and Television Major Anadolu University Social Sciences Institute, July 1999 Adviser: Prof. Dr. Seçil Büker Violence and love are the basic impressions which the life is based on and exists overtime in human life. Therefore, cinema which reflects the man and his/her life uses this themes very often. Especially, violence is used frequently in the cinema from the way beginning. But, since the early 1970's, the use of violence in films increased very seriously. The purpose of the love theme in those films is to make watching easier and strengthen the narration. Luc Besson who directed films in 80's and 90's, represented a new point of view on this topic. Contrast to the violence movies of the last 20 years, violence was not a purpose but a tool in his films. The purpose and the main message of his films are love. The way he achieved his success appears to be a question. The purpose of this thesis was to see how Besson integrated violence and love in his films. At the same time, it was tried to see the kind of relationship between those points. In the Findings and Interpretations section, first, violence and love are described with their types. After that, the films of Luc Besson were interpreted and his five films were analyzed according to the theory of violence and love. In the final section, suggestions and conclusions took place.
