Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı; GEMS tabanlı yaklaşıma uygun etkinliklerle hazırlanmış“Besinler ve Özellikleri”temasının İlkokul 4. Sınıf öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına etkisini ve GEMS yaklaşımına ilişkin öğrenci görüşlerini belirlemektir. Deneysel bir çalışma olan bu araştırma; Sivas merkezde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı Öğretmenler İlkokulunda, 2023-2024 eğitim öğretim yılının güz döneminde 4. Sınıf öğrencileri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney grubu (n=17), kontrol grubu (n=17) olmak üzere çalışma grubu toplam 34 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada kontrol grubu ile“Besinler ve Özellikleri”ünitesi Fen Bilimleri Öğretim Programına uygun işlenirken, deney grubuyla ise GEMS programına uygun hazırlanmış etkinliklerle işlenmiştir. Uygulama öncesinde her iki gruba da araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan“Başarı Testi”ön test olarak yapılmış ve deney grubu ile 6 haftalık bir uygulama süreci gerçekleştirilmiştir. Uygulama sonrasında ise“Başarı Testi”deney ve kontrol grubuna tekrar son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen nicel verilerin normal dağılımı kontrol edilmiş ve bağımsız örneklem t testi ile bağımlı örneklem t testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırmadaki nitel verileri toplamak için, deney grubundan seçilen 4 kız ve 4 erkek öğrenci ile GEMS tabanlı etkinlikler hakkında yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tüm verilerin istatistik analizleri, SPSS 22.00 paket programı kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiş ve gerekli betimsel analizler yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler ise içerik analizi tekniğiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilere göre, GEMS etkinliklerinin fen bilimleri dersinde akademik başarı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğu bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerle yapılan görüşmelerde, GEMS aktivitelerinin öğrenciler tarafından eğlenceli ve öğretici bulunduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu etkinlikler düşünme, araştırma, gözlem, sorgulama, iletişim ve işbirliği becerilerine katkı sağlamıştır. Ayrıca, ev ödevlerinin aile ile ilişkileri güçlendirdiği ve yapılan etkinliklerin fen dersine karşı olumlu bir bakış açısı kazandırdığı belirlenmiştir.

The purpose of this study; To determine the effect of the“Foods and Their Properties”theme, prepared with activities suitable for the GEMS-based approach, on the academic achievement of 4th Grade Primary School students and student opinions regarding the GEMS approach. This research, which is an experimental study; It was held with 4th grade students in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year at the Teachers Primary School affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the center of Sivas. The study group consists of a total of 34 students, including the experimental group (n = 17) and the control group (n = 17). In the study, the“Foods and Their Properties”unit was taught in accordance with the Science Curriculum with the control group, while with the experimental group, it was taught with activities prepared in accordance with the GEMS program. Before the application, the“Achievement Test”prepared by the researcher was applied to both groups as a pre-test and a 6-week application period was carried out with the experimental group. After the application, the“Achievement Test”was applied again to the experimental and control groups as a final test. The normal distribution of the obtained quantitative data was checked, and independent sample t-test and dependent sample t-test were applied. To obtain qualitative data in the study, semi-structured interviews about GEMS-based activities were held with 4 female and 4 male students selected from the experimental group at the end of the application. Statistical analyzes of all data obtained were made with the help of SPSS 22.00 package program and necessary descriptive analyzes were carried out. The data obtained from the interview was evaluated using the content analysis technique. According to the data obtained from the research, GEMS activities were found to have a significant effect on academic success in science classes. In interviews with students, it was revealed that GEMS activities were found fun and instructive by the students. These activities contributed to thinking, research, observation, questioning, communication and collaboration skills. Additionally, it was determined that homework strengthened relationships with the family and the activities provided a positive perspective on science lessons.
