Özet

Mircea Eliade'nin çalışmalarının amacı, dinsel inanç deneyiminin temelinde yer alan“kutsal”kavramını araştırmaktır. Eliade için insanlığa ait tüm ritüellerde ve inanma biçimlerinde kutsalın tecrübesi söz konusudur. Eliade, insanın kutsal olanı tecrübe edişini din olarak tanımlar. Bu nedenle insanlığın varoluşu ile kutsal olanın tecrübe edilmesi her zaman dinsel deneyimi ortaya çıkarır. Her dinsel ritüelin altında kutsal olanın tezahürü yer alır. Arkaik toplumlardan tutun da günümüze kadar sürekli olarak kutsal ve kutsalın tezahürleri ile varlığını anlamlı kılan insan için zamanla Kutsal kavramında değişiklikler yaşansa da insanın Kutsal ile ilişkisi asla kopmamıştır. Tarih boyunca kutsala ilişkin anlam değişikliklerinin sebebi ise insanın dünyayı ve evreni yorumlama biçiminde değişikliklere gitmesidir. Günümüzde modern insan, kutsala dayalı dinsel anlamdan uzaklaşarak, kendi tarihini ve varlığını inşa etme eğilimine girmeye çabalasa da kutsal olan ile bağ çeşitli tarzlarda devam etmektedir. Modern insanın, anlam arayışında arkaiklere nazaran daha farklı ritüellere başvurduğu görülmektedir. Fakat modern insanın da anlam arayışının derinlerde kutsal olana yönelim söz konusudur. Eliade için insan kutsal ile ilişki üzerinden dünyayı anlamlı bir yapıya dönüştürür. Bu tezin ilk amacı Eliade'nin kutsal kavramı ile tanımaya çalıştığı insan anlayışının betimlenmesidir. İkincisi ise Batı Orta Çağ'ında kilise hakimiyetinde şekillenen kutsal anlayışına Aydınlanmacı filozofların eleştirilerini ele alarak Eliade düşüncesine bir katkı sağlamaktır.

The aim of Mircea Eliade's work is to investigate the concept of the“sacred”which lies at the basis of the experience of religious belief. For Eliade, there is an experience of the sacred in all rituals and beliefs of humanity. Eliade defines man's experience of the sacred as religion. For this reason, the existence of humanity and the experience of the sacred always reveal religious experience. Underneath every religious ritual lies the manifestation of the sacred. Even though the concept of the Sacred has changed over time, man's relationship with the Sacred has never been severed for man, who has always made his existence meaningful with the sacred and its manifestations, from archaic societies to the present day. The reason for the changes in the meaning of the sacred throughout history is that people have made changes in the way they interpret the world and the universe. Today, although modern man tries to move away from the religious meaning based on the sacred and tend to build his own history and existence, the connection with the sacred continues in various ways. It is seen that modern people resort to different rituals compared to the archaics in their search for meaning. However, in the depths of modern man's search for meaning, there is a tendency towards the sacred. For Eliade, humans transform the world into a meaningful structure through a relationship with the sacred. The first aim of this thesis is to describe the human understanding that Eliade tries to recognize with the concept of the sacred. The second is to contribute to Eliade's thought by addressing the Enlightenment philosophers' criticisms of the understanding of the sacred that was shaped under church domination in the Western Middle Ages.
