Özet
If emotional experiences are potent in providing information which enables better adaptive emotion-regulation strategies and enhances psychological well-being (Keltner & Gross, 1999), people with greater negative-emotion differentiation will have an advantage (Barrett, Gross, Christensen, & Benvenuto, 2001). The present correlational study was designed to ascertain whether there is an association between negative-emotion differentiation and specific adaptive or maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies, namely cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, and how adaptive emotion regulation strategy of cognitive reappraisal mediates the association between negative-emotion differentiation and psychological well-being. Using an experience-sampling method, the study asked 54 participants to specify their current positive and negative emotional experiences on selfreports five times a day over the course of seven days. The results did not affirm the association between negative-emotion differentiation and specific adaptive and maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies or the mediator effect of cognitive reappraisal on the association between negative-emotion differentiation and psychological well-being. It is recommended that future studies should be experimental in design, use clinical samples and larger sample size, and systematically consider how many self-reports are needed.
