Özet
Bu tezin konusu, Stoacılık'ın bir temsilcisi olan Marcus Aurelius açısından carpe diem fikrinin incelenmesidir. Kendisi için carpe diem'in içeriğinin ne olduğu ve nasıl temellendirildiği sorularına yanıt aranmıştır. Yöntem olarak doğrudan Marcus Aurelius'un kendi söylemlerinin alıntılanması ve yorumlanması seçilmiştir. Böylece, felsefi bir araştırmada birincil kaynak ele alınarak, kısmen bir objektiflik yakalamak ve okuyucuya filozofu kendi sesinden duyurmak amaçlanmaktadır. Bunun için, okuyucuya önce dönemin felsefi atmosferi ve söylemlerin anlaşılabilmesi için gerekli olduğu düşünülen teknik terminoloji hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonunda, İlkçağ'da bir Romalı olan Marcus Aurelius için carpe diem'in, modern okuyucu olarak bizlere olduğundan daha kapsamlı bir anlam ifade ettiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Özet (Çeviri)
The subject matter of this thesis is the idea of carpe diem in regard to Marcus Aurelius as a Stoic philosopher. The questions of what is the extend of carpe diem for him and how is it reasoned in philosophical terms had been researched. The method of the study includes quoting the discourses of Marcus Aurelius' himself and expounding them. In this way, approaching the primary source in a philosophical study, capturing the most possible objectivity and speaking from the philosopher's own voice had been aimed. Therefore, the information about the philosophical ambience of the relevant period and the technical terminology which is needed for reader's understanding of the discourses had been given in the first. The result which had been reached at the end of the study is that carpe diem has a more extensive meaning for a Roman person in Antiquity than it has for a modern reader.
