This thesis, consists of five parts; The first chapter is an introduction to terms of superconductivity. In this chapter also, historical development of the subject has been reviewed and basic definitions have been made carefully. In the second chapter, related literature was rewieved, the crystal structures of superconducting phases are given and sample preparation methods are briefly explained. The effect of the preparing conditions on the superconducting sample is explained in the light of the literature. In the third chapter, construction and specification; of furnace which was used for annealing the superconducting samples, have been explained. In addition to this to this, a theoritical modelling of this furnace has been studied with the help of a computer program. Thus, the specifications for a well designed furnace with a flat temperature profile have been obtained. In the fourth chapter, the experimental part of this study is revealed. In this part, the effect of cooling rates on the tablets which were produced via solid-state reactions have been elobrated. For this, X-Ray patterns, current densities and mass differences have been used. From x ray patterns, percentage of the 2223 phase in these samples have been determined. In order to study the effect of the cooling rates, the current densities have been used. Thus, it was observed that to obtaine a higher current density, slow cooling is more favourable. Moreover, it was also observed that in fast cooling mass of the samples decreased due to that oxygen loss. We also found that regrinding is helpful to increase the percentage of 2223 phase in the samples. Experimental results given in the previous chapters were discussed in the last chapter. It was concluded that intermediate grinding and slow cooling is necessary for making better samples and oxygen content is affected by cooling rates.
