Özet
Bu çalışma, Alman sosyal bilim geleneğindeki yöntem tartışmalarını ve bu tartışmaların altında din sosyolojisi disiplininin gelişimini konu edinmektedir. Bu amaçla tezimiz dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde hem klasik hem çağdaş dönemdeki yöntem tartışmalarının düşünsel temellerini oluşturan etkenler gösterilecektir. Öncelikle Yeni-Kantçılığın felsefi dayanağı olarak Kant'ın epistemolojisi işlenecek; sonrasında on dokuzuncu yüzyıla damgasını vuran, başka ifadeyle ondokuzuncu yüzyılın tarih yüzyılı olarak isimlendirilmesine neden olan tarihselcilik düşüncesi ele alınacaktır. Bunu yaparken, dönemin önde gelen üç tarihselci düşünürünün görüşlerine odaklanılacaktır. İkinci bölümde klasik dönem yöntem tartışmalarının Yeni-Kantçı temeli, ilk olarak Dilthey ve Rickert ayrışması ve karşılaştırması üzerinden verilecek; sonrasında Weber, Simmel ve Mannheim özelinde yöntem tartışmalarının sosyoloji disiplininde ne tür bir açılım sergilediği gösterilmeye çalışılacaktır. Bunlarla birlikte dönemin yöntem tartışmalarında zirve kabul edilebilecek olan Yöntem Kavgaları (Methodenstreit) analiz edilecektir. Üçüncü bölümde çağdaş dönem yöntem tartışmaları ele alınacaktır. Pozitivizm Tartışmaları (Positivismusstreit) altında önce Popper ve Adorno, akabinde Habermas ve Albert karşılaştırması yapılacaktır. Bu tartışmalardan hareketle çağdaş dönemde yöntem tartışmalarını bir senteze kavuşturmak isteyen Habermas üzerinde detaylıca durulacaktır. Son bölümde ise bu tartışmalar altında ve ışığında din sosyolojisinin gelişimi takip edilecektir. Bölüm iki ana başlıkta incelenecektir. İlk olarak klasik döneme denk gelen Din-Bilim tartışmaları, sonrasında da çağdaş dönemde bağımsız bir disiplin olarak din sosyolojisinin özellikle metodolojik açıdan kilise hizmetinden uzaklaşarak bilimsel hüviyet kazanması dönemi anlatılacaktır. Sonuç bölümünde ise çalışmanın kısa bir özeti yanında, sosyal bilimlerde yöntem tartışmaları, Habermas üzerinden eleştirel bir değerlendirmeye tabi tutulacaktır.

This study deals with methodological debates in the German social science tradition and the emergence of the discipline of sociology of religion. For this purpose, our thesis consists of four parts and a critical conclusion. In the first chapter, the factors that had formed the intellectual foundations of methodological debates in both the classical and contemporary periods will be shown. First of all, Kant's epistemology will be discussed as the philosophical basis of Neo-Kantianism; afterwards, the idea of historicism, which left its mark on the nineteenth century, in other words, which caused the nineteenth century to be called the century of history, will be discussed. In doing so, the views of three leading historicist thinkers of the period will be focused on. In the second chapter, the classical methodological debates will be given. First, the theoretical basis of the subject will be told through Dilthey and Rickert based on distinction and comparison between the two; afterwards, it will be tried to show what kind of implications the method discussions had given in the discipline of sociology, in particular Weber, Simmel and Mannheim. Moreover, the Methodenstreit, which could be considered the peak of the debates, will be analyzed. Here, Weber will be discussed in more detail than others, as he is the founder of the field and perhaps he has been the most controversial position in method discussions. In the third chapter, contemporary methodological debates will be discussed. Under Positivism Debates (Positivismusstreit), first Popper and Adorno; following them, a comparison between Habermas and Albert will be done. Based on these discussions, Habermas, who wished to synthesize the method debates in the contemporary period, will be discussed in detail. In the last chapter, the development of the sociology of religion will be followed in the light of these debates. The chapter will be examined under two main headings. Firstly, the Religion-Science discussions that coincided with the classical period will be given; afterwards, the period of the sociology of religion as an independent discipline in the contemporary period, especially methodologically moving away from church service and gaining a scientific identity will be explained. In the conclusion section, besides a brief summary of the study, methodological debates in social sciences will be critically evaluated through Habermas.
