Özet
Günümüzde bireylerin, evcil hayvanlarını ailenin bir üyesi olarak gördüğü bilinmektedir. Buradan yola çıkarak evcil hayvanın aile sisteminde ayrı bir alt sistem olarak yer alması gerektiği çalışmalarca belirtilmiştir. Mevcut tez çalışması aile içerisinde bir alt sistem olan evcil hayvan üzerine çalışmayı hedeflemiştir. Evcil hayvan sahibi olan çiftlerin evcil hayvan sahipliğini nasıl deneyimledikleri ve deneyimi nasıl yorumladıklarına odaklanılmıştır. Evcil hayvanlarıyla en az 6 aydır bir arada yaşıyor olan, sahiplenilen evcil hayvanın kedi veya köpek olduğu, evcil hayvan ile aynı evi paylaşan ve farklı aile yaşam döngülerinde olan 12 çift çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Bu ölçütleri sağlayan çiftlere ulaşabilmek için Aydın ve Muğla ilindeki veteriner kliniklerinden yardım alınmıştır. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Pilot görüşme 1 çiftle, asıl görüşmeler 11 çiftle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan görüşmeler neticesinde çiftlerin evcil hayvanla yaşama ilişkin deneyimleri kodlar, alt temalar ve temalar olmak üzere sınıflandırılmıştır. Aile, sahiplenme motivasyonu, çevresel tutumlar, atfedilen anlam, değişim, ebeveynlik, işlev ve sosyalleşme olmak üzere 8 tema belirlenmiştir. Evcil hayvanın aile içindeki rolü birlikte ebeveynlik (coparenting) kavramı içinde de değerlendirilmiştir. Temalar incelendiğinde bu temalara ait en sık belirtilen görüşler; evcil hayvanın evin çocuğu olarak görülmesi, sahiplenme motivasyonunun hayvan sevgisi olması, olumlu çevresel tutumların da hayvan sevgisini desteklemesi, olumsuz çevresel tutumların hayvanın ev ortamında yaşaması yönünde olması, evcil hayvanın evlat, aile üyesi, psikolojik iyi oluş ve sevgi anlamlarını ifade etmesi, çiftlerin evcil hayvan sahiplenmeleriyle sorumluluklarının artması, evcil hayvanın bakımında iş bölümünden memnun olması, evcil hayvanla ilgili kararları ortak aldıkları, evcil hayvan konusunda anlaşmazlık yaşamadıkları ve evcil hayvanın temas ve iletişim yoluyla sosyal destek kaynağı olmasıdır.

Today, it is known that individuals see their pets as a member of their family. Based on this, studies have indicated that the pet should take place as a separate subsystem in the family system. The current thesis study aimed to study the pets, which is a subsystem within the family. The focus is on how pet-owning couples experience pet ownership and how they interpret the experience. The sample of the study consisted of 12 couples who have been living together with their pets for at least 6 months, whether the pet is a cat or dog, who share the same house with the pet, and who are in different family life cycles. In order to reach the couples meeting these criteria, help was obtained from the veterinary clinics in Aydın and Muğla. Qualitative research method was used in the study.The pilot interview was conducted with 1 couple and the main interviews were conducted with 11 couples. As a result of the interviews, the couples' experiences of living with pets were classified as codes, sub-themes and themes. Eight themes were identified: family, ownership motivation, environmental attitudes, ascribed meaning, change, parenting, function, and socialization. The role of the pet in the family has also been evaluated within the concept of coparenting. When these themes are examined, the most frequently stated opinions about these themes are; The pet is seen as a child of the house, the motivation to adopt is animal love, negative environmental attitudes support the animal love, negative environmental attitudes are for the animal to live in the home environment, the pet expresses the meaning of child, family member, psychological well-being and love, individuals' responsibilities increase with their ownership, individuals are satisfied with the division of labor in the care of the pet, they make common decisions about the pet, they do not have a disagreement about the pet, and the pet is a source of social support through contact and communication.
