Özet
Ill ÖZET Harold Pinter 20. yüzyılın önde gelen oyun yazarlarından biridir. Pinter'in gün geçtikte artan popülaritesinin nedeni büyük olasılıkla yazarlık kariyerinde görülen sürekli gelişmedir. Pinter, oyunlarında tek bir konuya saplanıp kalmak yerine konudan konuya geçmeyi ve yeni temalar incelemeyi tercih etmiştir. Bu tezin amacı; Harold Pinter'in oyunlarındaki tematik değişimi değerlendirmektir. Giriş bölümünde Pinter'in hayatı ve oyunları hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. İzleyen bölümlerde yazarın eserleri ilk, orta ve son dönem olarak 3 grupta toplanmış, Pinter'in ele aldığı değişik temaları ve yazarlık kariyerindeki gelişmeyi göstermek amacıyla, birinci gruptan The Birthday Party, ikinci gruptan The Homecoming ve Betrayal, üçüncü gruptan One for the Road incelenmiştir. Yazarın oyunları otobiyografik nitelik taşımamasına rağmen, Pinter'in hayatındaki değişimlerle oyunlarındaki tematik değişimler arasında bir paralellik olduğu gözlenmiş ve bu konu sonuç bölümünde irdelenmiştir.

ABSTRACT Harold Pinter is one of the foremost living playwrights of the twentieth century. The reason for the playwright's increasing popularity is probably his continual development as a dramatist. In his dramatic career, instead of being stuck to one single topic, Pinter preferred to move from subject to subject and explore new topics. The main concern of this thesis is to evaluate the changes in Harold Pinter's dramatic career. In the introduction part, Pinter's life and plays are presented. In the following chapters, his plays are classified in three groups as; the early plays, the mid-career plays and the recent plays and The Birthday Party from the first group, The Homecoming and Betrayal from the second group, and One for the Road from the third group are analysed to show the change of themes and development in the dramatist's work. The conclusion part reveals the fact that, although Pinter's plays cannot be said to be autobiographical with characters who are adapted self-portraits, it is impossible to deny that the changes in Harold Pinter's life reflect the changes in his plays.
