This study explored the association between social support, acculturative stress and depressive symptoms. Data was collected through an online survey of Turkish international students studying at universities in the United Kingdom. The sample for the study consisted of 100 Turkish international students (56% male, 44% female; mean age 27.44 years, SD 0.19). Results revealed that acculturative stress was significantly associated with depressive symptoms, but social support was not correlated with depression and acculturative stress. It was also found that acculturative stress, education level and marital status were the best predictors of depression, suggesting that international students who report higher levels of acculturative stress are more likely to experience negative psychosocial problems such as anxiety, emotional distress, and depression. In addition, the results from a hierarchical regression demonstrated that tests of interaction effects indicated that social support did not provide a buffer for the effects of high acculturative stress on depression. The results of this study suggest that counselling services at universities should provide psychological support and educational materials to students in need. Implications and future research directions were discussed.
