The social fabric is an intangible weaving if we think every individual member of a defined society as its threads. The final pattern obtained with these threads is a way to understand the demographics of a community that consists of the society's lifestyle, traditions, culture, regional values, ethnic composition, level of education and the rate of employment. The term is a metaphor for how well the community members collaborate amongst themselves: The tighter the weave, the stronger the fabric is; the looser the weave, the weaker the fabric. Strengthening the social fabric can be explained as providing a better integration through public environments between individuals with various ethnicities, age, the culture of the community. Thus, they can feel more involved with the society, be eager to help others when in need, be motivated to maintain their neighborhoods a positive, social and pleasant places to live. This thesis focuses on a specific site and looks up for a possible design solution to create an interaction environment by revitalizing a local“Mercato Coperto”(indoor market in English) of the city of Milano in order to strengthen the social fabric of a newly emerging neighborhood: NoLo. Nowadays, creating new bridges between old and new, native and foreign is exactly what we - need and it is also what makes the social fabric tighter. That is to say in the neighborhoods like NoLo which hosts various ethnicities and cultures, it is essential to augment new places of aggregation to welcome inhabitants and provide comfort zone spaces for interaction in order to tighten the weaves and create a strong social fabric.
