Sustainability of successful ecosystem restoration services depends on the interaction of ecological and climatic conditions. This study focused on failure reasons of woodland restoration and trees slow growth reasons on an area that restored for 30 years in terms of site conditions including soil properties (soil texture and type, pH, C, K, N, P, soil organic matter, C:N ratio), climate conditions (temperature, rainfall, wind). Four experimental compartments were compared to determine influence of variation of growth rate within same site. C, K and pH was found out the most significant influence on the growth rate differences of compartments. Seasonal rainfall effects on the site water conditions, this has a significant influence on the drainage conditions between compartments. Recommendations for future restoration projects are provided to avoid misevaluation of restoration stages that supplies sustainability of restoration. After ecological restorations, monitoring of site conditions restoration to indicate interaction of plants and site conditions can contribute sustainability of restoration. This can be achieved in part by evaluation of success rate on a site-specific scale such as Walltown Quarry Picnic Site, Northumberland.
