This paper presents an assessment of the current and possible role of Republic of Turkey in the European energy security matter. Since Turkey has a unique geopolitical position, which is between Europe and Asia as a bridge and beside it reaches out to Africa, Turkey can play a pivotal role to connecting resource rich lands to developed energy importing markets such as the EU. More specifically, the EU needs to raise the level of its energy security due to the trend of reduced sources, recent disputes that cause disruptions of supply and environmental concerns. Although the issue of energy security has always been one of the most important issues for the European Union, the prospects have increased even further in lately. Likewise, the concept of energy security has become vital issue in Turkey, especially since 1990s. Nevertheless, Turkey is not a reserve rich country, in contrast a highly dependent state on imports in terms of energy. Turkey, therefore, has a dream of becoming a significant energy hub for the world to in order to reduce the losses caused by this dependency on the energy trade. While Turkey has already some transit pipelines connecting the oil and gas trade routes, Turkey should turn itself into a complete energy hub for the EU to continue grow and gain more power by improving energy infrastructure and international relationships that the country has.
