This paper investigates the impact of oil price shocks on the macroeconomic variables in Turkey based on the monthly times series from 2005:02 to 2016:04, using the VAR model. We try to capture the linear and non-linear effects with impulse-response functions and variance decomposition analysis in our baseline model. In addition, the SVAR model is used to support our main findings. The results show that oil price shocks do not hinder economic growth but cause volatility. Monetary policy reacts in a moderate manner although, as expected, inflation is negatively affected. However, some variables reveal asymmetric responses to oil price changes. Overall, it is concluded that the Turkish economy has experienced a changing relationship between oil prices and macroeconomic variables in the last decade.
