Developing technology has made innovation and research and development indispensable today. Countries use innovation and R & D to improve product quality by increasing production and productivity, and to provide better service. Thus, competitiveness increases and contributes to the development of the country's economy. The main subject of this study is to investigate the impact of innovation on economic development in Turkey. In this context, theoretical information about innovation, how innovation is developed in the world and how it is measured is given. The development of innovation in Turkey, by which institutions and funds support innovation activities in Turkey is explained. According to main topic, GDP Growth, unemployment rate and productivity will be used as three main variables upon which the hypothesis are tested. The result obtained using the linear regression analysis show that that innovation has significant impact on economic development in Turkey. In fact, the analysis implying significant impact of innovation on employment/unemployment rate as well as labor productivity, while due to the statistical insignificance of the results received related to correlation of the Innovation and GDP growth Specific Hypothesis 1 ( referring to innovation and GDP growth) can't be neither rejected nor confirmed. Yet, due to the limited time span of 12 years, covering the period when several global crises have occurred, as well as to the fact that the GDP growth is also very complex indicator that shows intensive volatility in the crisis period, the lack of significant evidence for such correlation can be understood and accepted. Having in mind that the two other indicators (employments and productivity) are very important factors for economic development, the evidence of strong and significant impact of innovation of on employment and productivity can contribute towards confirming the Main Hypothesis: The innovation has significant impact on economic development in Turkey ― .
