Özet

Bu çalışma, abdominal stomalı hastaların bireysel özellikleri ile benlik saygısı arasındaki ilişkileri belirlemek amacıyla planlanmıştır. Araştırma, İstanbul Üniversitesi CerrahpaşaTıp Fakültesi, İstanbul Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastaneleri, Sağlık Bakanlığı Haydarpaşa Numune Hastanesi ve Kartal Devlet Hastanesi Genel Cerrahi kliniklerinde Aralık 1996 ve Ekim 1997 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. The aim of this study is to determine the relations between self esteem and personality properties of the patients who had abdominal stoma operations. Study was realised in general surgery clinics of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Gülhane Soldiers Medical Academy, Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital and Kartal State Hospital between December 1996 and October 1997. Total number of the patients included was 100. A questionnaire of Coopersmith self esteem scale was used to obtain data from the patients. Obtained score tables was evaluated statistically as percentages (%) and Chi-square (X2) test applied. Mean self esteem score of the patiens was 68.8 ± 16.68. % 54 of the patients had a low self esteem score and %46 had a high self esteem score. It is concluded that there wasn't any statistically significant correlation between self esteem score of the patients and the age of the patients, education status, sex, profession, marital status, parenthood, social security status and the place patients live (p>0.05). Also, diagnosis of the patients, the clinic in which the operation made, the operative technique, kind of the stoma and preoperative counseling had no statistically significant effect on self esteem score of the patients in this study. As a result in this study, it is concluded that personality properties of the patients was not an important factor affecting self esteem öf the patients who had abdominal stoma operations.
