Özet
Milâttan Önce 180'de Kutsal Kitabın ilk tercümesi olarak karşımıza çıkan Septuagint ile başlayan Kutsal Kitap tercümeleri günümüzde de hâlen devam eden, Hıristiyanlık tarihi açısından önemli çalışmalardır. Reform öncesinde de birçok dile tercümesi yapılan Kutsal Kitabın özellikle Reform ve sonrasında Batı dillerine tercümesi hız kazanmıştır. Katolik Kilisesi'nin Latince dışında başka dillere tercümesine izin vermediği dönemde Kutsal Kitabın tercümeleri âdeta durma noktasına gelmiştir. Katolik Kilisesi tarafından tercüme yapanlara yönelik baskı ve şiddet tercüme faaliyetlerini olumsuz etkilemiştir. Reform ile birlikte Kutsal Kitap tercümelerinin artması önemli bir gelişme olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Yapılan tercümelerde farklı metotlar kullanılmış olsa da Reformcuların ortak amacı Kutsal Kitabı halka ulaştırmak ve onların kendi dillerinde Kutsal Kitabı okuyup anlamasıydı. Katolik Kilisesi bu durumdan rahatsız olmuş ve Kutsal Kitabın tercümelerini yasaklayan bir tutum benimsemiştir. Trent Konsili'nde alınan kararlar neticesinde Kutsal Kitabın tercümelerini ve Reformcuların eserlerini yasaklayan Index Librorum Prohibitorum (Yasaklı Kitaplar Dizini) yayımlanmıştır. Bu yasaklar dizinine rağmen Kutsal Kitap tercümeleri yapılmıştır. 1966'da ise bu uygulama tamamen kaldırılmıştır.

Bible translations, which started with the Septuagint, which appeared as the first translation of the Bible in 180 BC, are still ongoing today and are important works in the history of Christianity. The Bible, which was translated into many languages before the Reform, accelerated its translations into Western languages, expecially during and after the Reform. When the Catholic Chuch was not allowed to translate into languages other than Latin, the translations of the Bible became standstill. The pressure and violence against translators by the Catholic Church negatively affected translation works. The increase in Bible translations with the Reform has emerged as an important development. Although different methods were used in the translations, the common goal of the Reformers was to bring the Bible to the people and to read and understand the Bible in their own languages. The Catholic Chuch was disturbed by this situation and adopted an attitude that prohibited the translations of the Bible. The Catholic Church published the Index Librorum Prohibitorum (Forbidden Books Index), which banned translations of the Bible and the works Reformers as a result of the decisions taken by the Council of Trent. Despite this index of prohibitions, Bible translations were made. In 1966, this practice was completely removed.
