Özet
ÖZET Bu çalışma, öğrenci ve öğretmenlerin dil, dil öğrenme ve dil öğretme ile ilgili görüşlerinin, sınıf atmosferi ve dil öğrenimi üzerindeki etkilerini araştırmaktadır. Bu konuda kanıt bulabilmek için iki ayrı grup oluşturuldu. Birinci grup, yukarıda sözü edilen konularda uyumlu görüşlere sahip öğretmen ve öğrencilerden oluşturuldu. İkinci gruptaki öğrenci ve öğretmenler birbirleri ile uyumlu olmayan görüşlere sahiptiler. Görüşlerdeki uyum ve uyumsuzlukların sınıf atmosferini nasıl etkilediğini görmek amacıyla her iki grup sekiz haftalık ilk blok boyunca haftada bir ders saati izlendi. İki grup da aynı süre içerisinde aynı eğitimi aldı. Öğretmen ve öğrencilerle ders sonraları ve blok sonunda mülakatlar yapıldı. Sözü edilen görüşlerin dil eğitimindeki basan üzerindeki etkisi olup olmadığım görebilmek için her iki gruba aynı sınav verildi ve sonuçlar karşılaştırıldı.

ABSTRACT This study is based on an investigation designed to explore the potential influences of match and mismatch in the beliefs the teachers and students hold about language, and language teaching and learning on the learning outcomes in foreign language classrooms. The research context is a language center, Yadim, (where the researcher is a member of teaching staff) providing preparatory English Language instruction to prospective students of various departments at Çukurova University. Forty eight students and four core language teachers were selected for participation in the study based on match scores obtained through Statview analysis of the language learning inventory (Wenden and Rubin 1987) administered to 200 students at beginner level, and 17 teachers. Students and teachers whose beliefs were in agreement, and those whose beliefs did not resemble were assigned to two separate groups. The two groups received the same instruction for a period of two months. The classes were observed, and the observations and the inventories provided a base for subsequent interviews with the teachers and the learners. At the end of the course, the learners in the two groups were given an achievement test. The test scores of the two groups were compared, and triangulated with observation and interview data.
