Özet (Çeviri)

The present study explored the sources of stress and different coping strategies of Turkish students. The main aim of the study is investigating the relationship between stress and eating behaviour changes. This study employed qualitative research methods, which was done by semi-structured interviews with natural conversations. Six participants attended to study; 3 females, 3 males. One male participant's interview was done via Skype because he was an undergraduate student in his final year at university in Turkey but still lived far away from his hometown. Other participants were all overseas Master's students. With those participants, interviews occurred face to face. For analysing the data, thematic analysis was used. Participants identified their recent sources of stress in two areas; academic and personal life stress. They identified certain types of coping strategies to manage with these stresses. General findings showed that most participants preferred to distract themselves or stimulate themselves to manage academic stress. Eating was one of the common technique to distract themselves from academic responsibilities. Participants employed that there is a relationship between their stress and eating behaviour. Eating behaviour increased for academic stress, which is related with being anxious. On the other hand, intention of eating decreased for personal life stress, which is about being sad or depressed. This situation is related with their emotions. Moreover, all participants preferred to eat certain types of foods like snacks, including chocolate, chips or easy to prepare foods with high calories; hamburger, prepared pizza or pasta. While participants were eating the food they described feeling more relaxed and happy. However, when they stopped eating anxiety increased again. This study results support the previous research's evidences about eating behaviour changes either eating more or less, certain types of foods, and feelings while eating and after eating.
