Özet
ÖZET Kappadokya bölgesinde Gülşehir'de yer alan Karşı Kilise duvar resimlerinin monografik bir incelemesi olan bu çalışmada amaç, konservasyonu yapılan resimlerin tanıtılmasıdır. Çalışma giriş, yayın tanıtımı, mimari tanıtan, katalog, değerlendirme, sonuç ve ekler bölümlerinden oluşur. Giriş bölümünde çalışmanın amacı, yöntemi ve bölge tarihçesi üzerinde durulmuştur. Tarihçe bölümünde 13. yüzyılda Bizans Devletinin ve Kappadokya'nın tarihsel durumu, Selçuklu devleti ile olan sınır ilişkisi ve bölgenin coğrafyası anlatılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra çalışmanın önemli bir noktası olan Karşı Kilise' nin yer aldığı Gülşehir hakkında da bilgi verilmiştir. Yayın tanıtımında kilise ile ilgili bugüne kadar yapılmış olan araştırmalar tanıtılmıştır. Mimari tamumda, alt ve üst kilisenin mimari tasviri yapılmıştır. Kiliseye ait ölçüler bölüm notlarında sunulmuştur. Çalışmanın katalog bölümü iki ana başlıktan oluşur. İlk bölümde alt kilise duvar resimleri anlatılmıştır, ikinci bölümde ise üst kilisenin duvar resimleri, konulu sahneler ve tek figürler olmak üzere ayrı ayrı tanıtılmıştır. Konulu tasvirlerin tanıtıldığı bölüm, yeri, durumu, yazıt ve tanım başlıklarından oluşur. Değerlendirme bölümü iki ana başlıkta toplanmıştır. Birinci bölümde, bölgede 13. yüzyıla tarihlenen bani tasvirli ve kitabeli kiliseler tanıtılmıştır. Karşı Kilise banisi ve kitabesi olması bakımından Kappadokya' da önemli bir yer tutar. Değerlendirmenin ikinci bölümü ise sahnelerin üslup, ikonografi ve mekan içinde dağılımına ayrılmıştır. Kilisede bugün mevcut olan toplam on konulu sahne vardır. Bunlardan“Meryem'e Müjde”,“Vaftiz”,“Son Akşam Yemeği”,“Yahuda'nın İhaneti”,“Çarmıhtan İndiriliş”,“Anastasis”,“Kadınlar Mezar Başında”,“Koimesis”,“Son Mahkeme”İncil kaynaklıdır.“Fırında Üç İbrani Genç”sahnesine ise Tevrat kaynaklık eder. Kilisede yer alan tek figürler apsiste, tonozda yer alan madalyonlarda, duvardaki nişler içinde yer alır. Tek figürler, peygamberler, martirler, azizler, azizeler, keşişler ve meleklerden oluşur. Değerlendirmenin üslup ve ikonografi bölümünde bölgede 13. yüzyıla tarihlenen örneklerle karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. Mekan içindeki dağılımın anlatıldığı bölümde Karşı Kilisenin planı göz önünde tutularak Kappadokya'da yer alan tek nefli kiliselerdeki sahne dağılımlarıyla karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde duvar resimlerinin ünik bir üslup yansıttığı bazı sahnelerdeki ikonografık ayrıntıların ise, Bizans resminde paralellerinin bulunmadığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra varılan bir diğer sonuç da, 13. yüzyılda bölgedeki Selçuklu Bizans sınırının belirsizliğine rağmen Karşı Kilisenin varlığı ile, Kappadokya'da Hıristiyanların hala sanat etkinliklerini sürdürdükleri olmuştur. Çalışmanın sonunda kaynakça verilmiştir. Ekler bölümünde ise, Karşı Kilisede yapılan konservasyon çalışması anlatılmış, kilisede yer alan sahnelere ait kaynak tablosu verilmiştir. Çalışmaya ait harita, plan ve resimler sonda sunulmuştur.

m SUMMARY The purpose of this study which is monographic study of the wall paintings in Karşı Church in Gülşehir in the region of Cappadocia. The contents of the study include introduction, discription of publication, architectural presentation, catalogue, evaluation, conclusion and appendix. In the introduction the emphasis is on the purpose and methodology of the study and the history of the region. The historical explanation included information on the history of the Byzantinenion Empire in the (XHLc) thirteenth century, A.D. and historical information on Cappacodia, the border relation with Seljuks and the geography of the region. In addition a detailed information on Gülşehir, the location of Karşı Church which is the important part of the study. The section in which the publications are described comprises all studies carried out until now with the objective to introduce the Church. Architectural presentation section includes the architectural description of the upper and lower church. The measurements of the church are given as footnotes in the section. There are two sub-sections in the catalogue section. In the first section, the wall paintings in the lower church are described. In the second section, the wall paintings in the upper church, scenes with themes, and one- figure paintings are all described one by one. The subsection in which the scepes with themes are introduced contains information on location, present condition, inscription and definition. Evaluation section also has two subsections. In the first section, the churches with inscriptions and together with descriptions of the founder or builder, which are said to be built in the thirteenth century, AD. Cappacodia as bearing the inscriptions and description of the builder of Karşı Church, has on important place in this section. The second section of the evaluation is devoted to the style, iconography and dispersal in land. Presently there are totally ten scenes with themes. Among them, those with titles“Good News to Virgin Mary”,“Baptizing”,“The Last Dinner”,“Betraying of Judah”,IV“Landing of the Cross”,“Anastasis”,“Women of the Grave”,“Koimesis”, and“The Last Trial”are based on the themes of the Bible. The Pentateuch is the source for“Tree Hebrew Youths in the Furnace”. The separate figures in the church can be seen in abscissa, medallions that are in faunas, and in the sharp points in the walls. These separate figures consist of prophets, saints, holies, monks, and angels. In the style and iconography section of the evaluation, some comparisons between the specimens that are said to belong to the 13 th century. Considering the design of Karşı Church, a comparison on dispersal of stages with the churches with single naphtais done in the section where dispersal in land described. In conclusion it is suggested that the iconography details in some stages in which the wall paintings reflect a unique style has some parallelism with the Byzantine paintings. In addition, it is also concluded that al though the border between Byzantine and Seljuks is not defined very clearly in the 13 th century, the presence of Karşı Church proves that the Christians continued artistic activities in Cappacodia. The source of publications are listed in the end and in the appendix the restoration work done in Karşı Church is explained and annexed the Source tables about stages. Also annexed are the maps, plans and pictures about the study.
