Özet (Çeviri)

SUMMARY The most splendid works of Turkish art shows itself not only in architecture but also in various branches of art supplementing architecture. Among these, we can count our tiles, stone carving, wood works, calligrahphy writing, carpets and prayer rugs. Our subject will be to examine the size and dimension relationship of prayer rugs, which are considered to be among carpets, according to characteristics of the regions, the name of which they carry. Prayer rug, which is a kind of carpet produced by means of weaving, is considered a subtype of carpets on the grounds of its function. The expression“carpet prayer rug”shows their relationship with respect to origin. Considering the lengths of prayer rugs, we can say that there is an elongation in their lengths from western regions through Eastern regions. Considering all centuries, the sizes according to regions are 1.34 in Western Anatolia, 1.45 in Central Anatolia and 1.46 in Eastern Anatolia and, it is obviously seen that through the eastern regions the longer side lengthens and rectangular form is accentuated. It can be argued that variations in sizes of prayer rags according to centuries and regions are due to certain reasons. The regions being close to each other with respect to geography, design patterns showed similarities because of motif exchanges. The obligation to adjust a desing to the local sizes caused some deformations because this caused a motif or design to be narrowed at some times and broadened at some other. The forms are nearly squarein Western Anatolia but they because rectangular doğuya gidildikçe; this can be attributed to instinctive behaviours arising from the differences in climate. It can be postulated that, because of the differences in sizes of sites in regional residences, prayer rugs have dimensions compatible to the grounds on which they are used and there are some narrowing or broadening in sizes. As a result, when viewed with respect to century, while the forms were variable in the 16th and 17th centuries they became standardized in the 18 th and 19th centuries in a sense, being fixed in the rate of 1.41. On the basis of region, while the examples in the west are nearer to square form they change into forms nearer to rectangular through the eastern regions.
