Özet
Amaç: Bu çalışmada örnek olay yönteminin ortaokul 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler dersi ''Etkin Vatandaşlık'' alt öğrenme alanındaki akademik başarı ve problem çözme becerilerine olan etkisini ortaya koymak amaçlanmaktadır. Yöntem: Nicel ve nitel araştırma deseninin tercih edildiği bu çalışmada öntest sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırma, 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılında, Erzurum ili merkezindeki bir ortaokulda öğrenim gören 7. Sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya deney grubundan 42 ve kontrol grubundan da 42 olmak üzere toplamda 84 öğrenci dahil edilmiştir. Öğrencilere“Problem Çözme Becerileri Ölçeği”ve akademik başarı testi uygulanmıştır. Deneysel uygulamada Sosyal Bilgiler Dersi 5 hafta 15 saat örnek olay yöntemiyle işlenmiştir. Deneysel uygulama sonunda her iki grup da başarı testi ve problem çözme becerisi ölçeği, deney ve kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere, sontest ölçümleri olarak tekrar uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde frekans (n), yüzde (%), ortalama ve standart sapma yanında, bağımsız örneklem t-testi ve Pearson korelasyon analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular: Deney ve kontrol grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin başarı testi öntest ve sontest puanları arasında cinsiyet değişkeni ve öğrencilerin Problem Çözme Becerisi öntest ve sontest başarı puanları arasında anlamlı fark meydana gelmediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada öğrencilerin örnek olaylara ilişkin uygulamalar, örnek olaylarda kazandırılmak istenen niteliklere ve değerlere öğrencilerin önemli oranda sahip oldukları görülmektedir. Sonuç: Örnek olay yöntemi ile öğrencilere uygulanan etkinlikler sonucunda öğrencilerin akademik başarılarının artış gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Problem çözme becerilerinde artış meydana gelmesine rağmen bunun anlamlı düzeyde gerçekleşmediği tespit edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla örnek olay yönteminin, öğrencilerin akademik başarı düzeylerinin artırılmasında etkili bir yöntem olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to reveal the effect of case study method on academic achievement and problem solving skills of 7th grade students' social studies course '' Active Citizenship '' sub-learning. Method: In this study, pre-test and post-test control group experimental design was used. The research consists of 7th grade students studying in a secondary school in Erzurum city center in 2018-2019 academic year. A total of 84 students, 42 from the experimental group and 42 from the control group, were included in the study.“Problem Solving Skills Scale”and academic achievement test were applied to the students. In the experimental application, Social Studies Course was carried out with 5 weeks 15 hours case study method. At the end of the experimental application, both groups' achievement test and problem solving skill scale were re-applied to the students in the experimental and control groups as posttest measurements. In addition to frequency (n), percentage (%), mean and standard deviation, independent samples t-test and Pearson correlation analysis were performed. Findings: It was concluded that there was no significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the students in the experimental and control groups and the pre-test and post-test achievement scores of the gender variable and the students' perception of problem solving skills. In the research, it is seen that the students have a significant proportion of the applications and the qualities and values to be gained in the case studies. Results: As a result of the activities applied to the students with case study method, it was concluded that the academic achievement of the students increased. In addition, although the problem solving skills increased, it was determined that this did not materialize significantly. Therefore, it is concluded that the case study method is an effective method for increasing the academic achievement levels of the students.
