THERMODYNAMICS AND ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF İZMİT YENİŞEHİR COLLECTIVE RESİDENCE DISTRICT'S DISTRICT HEATING ERCAN PELİT Keywods : District Heating, Economic Analysis, Thermodynamic Analysis, Optimization Abstract : In this study district heating system of the Yenişehir Collective Residence District which is built in the east of İzmit on an approximately 3.25 km2 area, consisting of 207 blocks and 5423 residences, and the district heating system that is designed as an alternative to the present one are evaluated on the thermodynamic and economic terms and are compared in order to find out the appropriate one. In this respect, instead of the present warm water heating system which supplies the heat necessity from 43 district centers, an alternative system which consists of the hot water main network supplying heat necessity from and single center and 28 secondary networks that use warm water suplied by the heat exchangers through transformation is designed. In order to design the new system in an economical way, investment and oparation cost of the apparattus in the main network and secondary centers, the heating central are primarily considered. For ensuring the minimum total cost, we have taken the temparature of the boiler the supply (Tg) of the boiler return (Td), as the main variables of our netwok and we have made a parametric study on them in order to achieve our goal. For making appropriate comparison between the present system and its alternative, cost are calculated base of the $. mA computer program is prepared in Borland Pascal 7.0 to make necessary tecnical and economic calculations. After all calculations are made by this program, it has been and understood that to supply and return temparatures which prowide the minimum total cost for me system are in the turn 150 °C and 80 °C. According to the main variables which we here determined, the results of the calculations about of the alternative system are determined. Folloving are the basis of these results, a comparation with the present system is mode. As a result, it has been realized that the new system is more advantegous. We can conclude that the total investment cost of the new system that is designed as an alternative is cheaper the than the new system by 2.23 1 % and 23.009 % saving is provided in its total opparation cost. More over the total cost of the alternative system is 1231305 $ being less than the cost of the present system and it is estimated. Furthermore, all heating central elements especially, the central heating couldrans are batter commanded and controlled since they are placed in a single center avay from the residences that are being heated. The filtering systems, moreover, are established an a cheaper and easier way. therefore, being less by 23.59.% as compared to the present system, appraximately 1081.016 ton fuel-oil dispasition is achieved annually. So a reliable and clean working system being sensitive to its system is designed. IV
