Özet
Eğitim, tarihin ilk devirlerinden günümüze kadar devam eden bir süreçtir. Eğitimin çağdaş uygarlık seviyesine ulaşmadaki ehemmiyeti herkes tarafından kabul edilmektedir. Fakat bu seviyeye ulaşmada bir takım problemlerle karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu problemler ise özgürlük ve otorite problemleridir. Çalışmamızın konusunu, eğitimde otorite ve özgürlük problemleriyle karşılaşmış olan ve bunlara çözüm bulmaya çalışan Bertrand Russell'ın düşünceleri oluşturmaktadır. Eğitim, otorite ve özgürlük kavramları değerlendirilmiş olup, Russell'ın bu konular hakkındaki fikirleri incelenmiştir. Tam bir özgürlüğün mümkün olmayacağı ve otoritenin bazı durumlarda uygulanması gerektiği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.

Education is a process that continues from the first periods of history to the present day. The importance of education in reaching the level of contemporary civilization is accepted by all. However, there are some problems in reaching this level. These problems are freedom and authority problems. The subject of our study is the thoughts of Bertrand Russell who has faced the problems of authority and freedom in education and tries to find solutions to these problems. The concepts of education, authority and freedom were evaluated and Russell's ideas on these issues were examined. It was concluded that full freedom would not be possible and that authority should be exercised in some cases.
