Technological developments, which occur very quickly, bring not only many advantages but also some disadvantages for example the pollution of the environment. One of the main reasons of the air pollution, which we can examine it under the subject of the environment pollution, is exhaust emissions of the vehicles. In this study; first of all air pollution was examined and some values were explained. These values show acceptable top limits of concentration of the pollutant emissions that a lots of counrties use. In the other parts; some of the exhaust emissions of the dizel engines were individually reviewed and their sources were investigated. A comparison between diesel and gasoline engines' emissions was made. For diesel engine emissions standart values were determined and some researches to reduce them were found. The analysis of combustion chamber insulation and its effects on the exhaust emissions of the diesel engines were made. Covering arround of the combustion chamber with any insulating material(ceramic) increases the temperature of the exhaust gases. So we can get great advantage about soot emissions. XI
