m TUNNEL FORM WORK SYSTEMS AND INSULATIONS (HEAT AND SOUND) (M. Arch. Thesis) Coşkun İNALPOLAT GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUE OP SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY JUNE 1996 ABSTRACT At the beginnings of twentieth century, building industry has shown a great development with the invention of concrete and progress in technology, especially in commercial and industrial building areas. However, in Europe after second world war housing problem has come into view by industrial housing projects and has been the cause of“mass building production”. Within time economical and social conditions of people and demands for comfortable house have made necessary to find economical and speedy types of building construction systems. Tunnel formwork system is one of these construction systems. Tunnel formwork system in which cast in place and prefabrication systems are used at the same time is called“semi - prefabrication”and has made a good progress in housing industry. This study is formed on 5 sections. These are as follows : Section 1: Industrialisation In this section, it is mentioned about the effects of industrialisation on building construction sector, evolution of building construction technology, easiness provided by industry on building sector, place of tunnel formwork system on social housing applications in Türkiye, place of this system in building industry.iv Section 2 Tunnel Formwork Systems Tunnel formwork system is described and features, construction methods and dimensioning of tunnel formwork are considered in this part. High buildings and their progress, well-known construction types and also high buildings constructed with tunnel formwork system are considered in this section. Also earthquake and selection of construction system and consideration of earthquake on architectural planning, earthquake resistance criterions of tunnel formwork system are discussed. In addition, factors of tunnel formwork system which effect architectural designing process and architectural plan types are also discussed in this section to conclude this study. Section 3 Application of Tunnel Formwork System In this section, application methods, mounting of formwork, erection of system, casting and curing of concrete are mentioned. In addition, it is talked about prefabrication and conventional system as the parts of system and also construction site arrangements are considered. Section 4 Heat Insulation In this section, heat insulation materials are discussed and heat insulation for tunnel formwork system is described on detailed drawings. Also while importance of heat insulation for tunnel formwork is emphasized, consideration of heat insulation on architectural designing process is mentioned. Economical aspects of heat insulation are also searched. Section 5 Sound Insulation In this section, sound insulation for tunnel formwork system is described on detailed drawings. Application of sound insulation and materials are mentioned. Necesssity of sound insulation for human comfort is emphasized as well.
