Özet
Bu çalışma, Jean Rhys'in Voyage in the Dark, Good Morning, Midnight ve Iris Murdoch'un Under the Net romanlarında yer alan flanör imgesini edebi ve sosyal bir tip olarak incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma giriş, üç ana bölüm ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde kavrama genel bir bakış açısıyla edebiyata ve incelenen eserlere bağlantısı verilmiştir. Birinci bölümünde flanör ve flanöz kavramının tarihsel gelişimi Charles Baudelaire, Walter Benjamin, Henri Lefebvre, Zygmunt Bauman, Georg Simmel, David Harvey, Guy Debord ve Lauren Elkin gibi isimlerin düşünceleri çerçevesinde incelenmektedir. İkinci Bölüm Jean Rhys'in bir romancı olarak hayatına, edebi kariyerine ve iki romanı Voyage in the Dark ile Good Morning, Midnight'ta yer alan flanözlerin Baudelaire, Benjamin, Lefebvre, Harvey ve Elkin dolayımında analizi üzerine kuruludur. Üçüncü Bölüm Iris Murdoch'un edebi yaşamına ve felsefi düşüncelerine yer verirken aynı zamanda Under the Net romanına konu olan flanörün Bauman'ın ve Simmel'in görüşleri üzerinden detaylı incelenmesine odaklanmaktadır. Sonuç bölümünde, inceleme boyunca ele alınan kavramla ilgili genel bir değerlendirme sunulmaktadır.

This study aims at scrutinizing the image of the flaneur as a social and literary type in Jean Rhys's Voyage in the Dark, Good Morning, Midnight and Iris Murdoch's Under the Net. The study composed of an introductory part, three main chapters and a conclusion. In the Introduction part, besides reflecting a general view of the flaneur, the connection of flaneur concept with literature has been given. The first chapter is based on the historical development of the flaneur and flaneuse are examined with the ideas of Charles Baudelaire, Walter Benjamin, Henri Lefebvre, Zygmunt Bauman, Georg Simmel, David Harvey, Guy Debord and Lauren Elkin. The Second Chapter is based on Jean Rhys's life and career as a novelist and the analysis of her two novels, Voyage in the Dark and Good Morning, Midnight in terms of the flaneuse with reference to Baudelaire, Benjamin, Lefebvre, Harvey and Elkin. The Third Chapter focuses on Iris Murdoch's literary career and her philosophical views. This chapter is also devoted to a detailed examination of Under the Net on the basis of Bauman's and Simmel's theories of the flaneur. The Conclusion gives a general evaluation, and overall discussion of the main issue raised throughout the research.
