SUMMARY Trees support human life in lots of ways. They provide oxygen and when they become wood trees can be used for a long time. The use of wood has an important role in Turkish culture. People have built wooden houses and an architectural style called“Old Turkish Houses”is developed. Wooden fishing boats are being built for centuries and are still in use. The main reason for building wooden boats is the wild nature of the Black Sea Beech and chestnut trees, the most suitable trees for boat construction, grow in West Black Sea Region. İn Kurucaşile district of city of Bartın, in Tekkeönü and Kapisu villages boats are constructed. In this project, boat construction, the main way of earning one's living in this area, is shown as a documentary. Chestnut trees growing naturally bent are cut and left in water until its own sap comes out. then left to dry in the sun. In the Ottoman times 300-500 ton boats called“çektirme”were used for transport and defense and various other sizes from 3.5 meters to 25 meters were being built. Today fishing boats called“Alamana”and smaller ones“taka”are being built. These boats have common points: one is except for the keel ( beech is used ) throughout the boat, the other point is that the wood is cut parallel to the sap of the tree, thus the boats are firm and lasting. The people who build these boats have learned the art from their fathers and grandfathers, and have taught their children. Now they work all the three generations. All their life is spent on boats. They don't have specific measurments for boat construction. They are so used to this work that they measure with their eves. They put the keel on the sliding ways and look, if they like it. they go on and finish the construction. ?.jSSSSA *?* \ J*w
