Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı Türkiye'deki turizm fakültesi öğrencilerinin İngilizce iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik gereksinimlerini belirlemek, belirlenen gereksinimler ışığında turizm fakültelerine yönelik mesleki İngilizce öğrenme çıktılarını oluşturmak ve aynı zamanda oluşturulan öğrenme çıktıları temelinde örnek üniteler ve ölçme araçlarının geliştirilmesini kapsayan bir İngilizce ders programı tasarlamaktır. Bu çalışma, yabancı dil olarak İngilizce iletişim becerilerine gereksinim duyan turizm fakültesi öğrencilerinin niteliğinin artırılmasına yönelik önemli bulgular sunmaktadır. Araştırma evrenini Türkiye'deki tüm turizm fakülteleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın hedeflerine ulaşması için örneklem alınmasına yönelik belirlenmiş 6 turizm fakültesindeki öğrencilerden, turizm alan öğretim elemanlarından, turizm fakültelerinde İngilizce derslerine giren öğretim elemanlarından, turizm fakültesi mezunlarından ve sektör yönetici temsilcilerinden anket yolu ile veri toplanmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analiziyle turizm fakültesi öğrencilerinin İngilizce iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik gereksinimleri paydaşlar gözünden belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında, turizm fakültelerine yönelik Global Scale of English (GSE) Toolkit kullanılarak dört dil becerisi temelli mesleki İngilizce öğrenme çıktıları oluşturulmuş, oluşturulan öğrenme çıktıları GSE düzeylerine göre sistematik olarak dönemlere dağıtılmıştır. Daha sonra, yine belirlenen öğrenme çıktıları ışığında dönemlik bir İngilizce dersine yönelik bir mesleki İngilizce ders programı geliştirilmiştir. Geliştirilen ders programı kapsamında ilgili derse yönelik öğrenme çıktılarına dayalı örnek üniteler ve ölçme araçları da geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışma turizm fakültesi öğrencilerinin İngilizce iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik bir turizm İngilizcesi ders programı önermesinin yanı sıra, turizm fakültelerine yönelik Belirli Amaca Yönelik İngilizce Öğretimi ders programı tasarımının nasıl yapılması gerektiğine dair örnek bir çalışmadır. Ayrıca bu çalışmanın turizm fakültelerine yönelik mesleki İngilizce programının geliştirilmesinde bundan sonraki çalışmalar için bir platform görevi üstlenmesi beklenmektedir.

The aim of this study is to find out the needs of tourism faculty students for the development of their English communication skills, to create the vocational English learning outcomes for tourism faculties in the light of the determined needs and to design a vocational English program including the development of sample units and assessment tools on the basis of the outcomes. This study presents important findings to help tourism faculty students to increase their qualifications regarding English communication skills as a foreign language. The population of the study consists of all of the tourism faculties in Turkey. The participants of the study were from the six tourism faculties taken as the sample of the research; the undergraduate students, the lecturers teaching tourism and those teaching English, the graduates of tourism faculties and the representatives of the tourism sector. In order to reach the objectives of the study, the relevant data were collected from the stakeholders of tourism faculties through a questionnaire. In line with the findings of the study, vocational English learning outcomes were created using Global Scale of English (GSE) Toolkit and grouped into four English skills, and the outcomes were distributed to academic terms using the GSE range of each outcome systematically. Then, in the light of the determined learning outcomes, a vocational English program for a specific English course was developed. Within the scope of the English program, sample units and assessment tools were also developed based on the learning outcomes in the proposed English program. This study is an important one for the tourism faculties as it has proposed a list of vocational English learning outcomes for the development of English communication skills of tourism students and proposed an exemplary method for developing an English for Specific Purpose Program for Tourism Faculties as well as forming a platform for the further studies in the field.
