Özet
ÖZE! Bu master tezi, Developing Strategies isimli ders kitabının yazma becerisi yönünden öğretimi, analizi değerlendirmesi ve önerilerine yönelik bir çalışmadır. Developing Strategies, Brian Abbs ve Ingrid Freebairn tarafından yazılmış ve Gazi Üniversitesi'nde kur ve hazırlık okullarında kullanılmakta olan bir serinin 3. kitabıdır. Bu çalışmanın birinci bölümü problem, çalışmanın amacı ve kapsamıyla ilgilidir. Dil öğretimi metodları ve bunların yazılı anlatıma verdikleri önemi ikinci bölüm anlatmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde kitap incelemesinin nasıl olması gerektiği kısaca özetlenmektedir. Yazılı anlatımı içeren ve bunun nasıl olması gerektiği konusunda fikirler veren bölüm ise dördüncü bölümdür. Beşinci bölümde de Gazi Üniversitesi Mimarlık ve Mühendislik Fakültesi'nde okuyan öğrenci ve öğretmenlere uygulanan anketler ve bunların sonuçlarının değerlendirmesi bulunmaktadır. Altıncı ve son bölümde bu çalışma kısaca özetlenmektedir. Bu çalışmada ayrıca üç tane ek vardır. Bunlar ilgili ders kitabındaki yazma aktiviteleri ve öğrenci ve öğretmenlere uygulanan anketlerdir.

Ill ABSTRACT This MA thesis, aims at analyzing and evaluating the coursebook Developing Strategies in terms of writing skills. Developing Strategies is a coursebook written by Brian Abbs and Ingrid Freebairn and has been used by the students at Gazi University. The first chapter attempts to give the purpose, the background to the study, the scope and the problem. The second chapter reviews the language teaching methods by drawing their attentions to writing. In the third chapter textbook evaluation is briefly explained. Chapter four deals with teaching writing and it explains the importance of writing for learners. In chapter five, the results of the questionnaires, which have been administered to the students and teachers at the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering at Gazi University, are analyzed. The sixth chapter involves a brief summary of the study. There are three appendices in this study. The first appendix presents the writing activities in the related coursebook. The second and third appendices include the questionnaires specially designed for this study for the students and teachers at the related faculty.
