Özet
ÖZET Bu çalışmanın amacı bir metni okurken 'Cohesive Device' ların ne denli önemli olduğu konusuna dikkati çekmektir. Bu amaçla öğrenciye/okuyucuya metinin içeriğini ve yazarın mesajını kolayca anlaması için gerekli bilgi ve örnekler verilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile ilgili problem ve amaç birinci bölümde dile getirilmiştir. İkinci bölüm ise, okuyucunun belirli bir amaç için istifade edebileceği ve gerekli bilgiyi elde etme sine yardımcı olabilecek 'Okuma Çeşitleri ve Alt Gruplarını' (Types and Subskills of Reading) içermektedir. Üçüncü bölüm ise bir diğer önemli konu olan 'Metin ve Metinin Yedi ölçütü nü' (Text and Seven Standards of Textual i ty) içermektedir. En yoğun ve ağır bölüm ise dördüncü bölümde bulunmaktadır. Bu bölüm; bir okuyucunun, okuma esnasında karşılaşabileceği problemleri, bunun nedenlerini, ve bu sorunların çoğunun kay naklandığı 'Cohesion ve Cohesive Device' lan içermektedir. Beşinci bölüm ise, metin örneklerini ve bu konuyla ilgili analizleri kapsamaktadır. Bu metin örnekleriyle amaçlanan şey ise, okuyucunun yazarın düşüncesini kısa sürede anlamasına yardımcı olmaktır. Son bölümde bütün çalışmanın kısaca özetlendiği sonuç bölümü yer almaktadır.

ABSTRACT This study has been carried out to draw attention to how important the cohesive devices are in reading a text. Therefore, some specific knowledge and examples are given to help the reader/student to understand the text writer's message and the content of the text in ease. The problem and purpose of the study are explained in the first chapter. In the second, there is 'Types and Subskills of Reading', which may be helpful for a reader to extract the knowledge he needs and wants to use for a specific purpose. The third one includes the other important part 'Text and Seven Standards of Textuality'. The heavy and intensive part is the fourth chapter. This chapter includes some problems which a reader may come across through a reading activity and their reasons, and 'Cohesion and Cohesive Devices', of which those problems come out. The fifth contains some text samples the thesis writer has prepared and analyzed. These samples aim at helping the students to understand and decode the writer's thought in a short time. Finally, the last one comprises the conclusion, which summarizes the whole study. m
