Behcet! is one of the distinguished personages of the classical school of poetry who grew up during the middle of the seventeeth century. The poet whose birth date has not been fixed worked as the secretary of the council of state and historian. Having been dis missed from his office he was exiled to Damaseus,and during the last term of his life he joined Halveti pa path (religious order) and wrote sufic poems. Master Behceti Hüseyin died in Budin, 1095 H (1683 G.)after returning from the Peç war. Behceti has got a five hundred-couplet Turkish collected poems and a history called“Zaferaame”which tells the conquest of Cehrin castle. In Behceti' s opinion ability to write a poem is Allah's blessing. The poet believes that his own talent is given to him by birth. In his opinion it is required to create a special poem style by using new contents for the poem to be liked. The poet, who showed all the fineness of the Sebk-i Hindi current, developed a style special to him by uni ting the elements of sound, accord, witticism and sense to the new contents. Behceti, who chose the words. In the poem, attached a great importance to put ting the words in their right places like the beads of a string. He considered himself a new student that knew the past very well. He attached a great importance to the elements of word, witticism and sense. He played a game of poetry hitting the balls of words with his pen that he compa red to“çevgan”in the field of sense, the poet stres sed that his poems had got some characteristics that could not be imitated. Nefi has got an influence on him.
