SUMMARY This study was carried out in order to determine the opinions of teachers and pupils on preparing for a proffession or higher level study at the second grade of elementary education. Population was made up of the class teachers and pupils of class 8 from the elementary schools located in Çankaya district of Ankara. Sample was brought about by random sampling. Sample contained 48 class teachers and 379 pupils in 8th class. 8th classes also were determined by random sampling. For data collecting two different questionnarrie forms were applied. One of them was applied to teachers and the other was aplied to pupils, To analyze collected data statistical techniques such as frequency analysis, percentage were used and the data were interpreted by illistruations. According to the findings it was maintained that majority of class teachers were not given in-service education related to proffessional guidance and the families also did not help to pupils enough to address them to a proffession. In addition it was stated that class teachers did not cooperate with families about proffessional guidance and higher level study and visiting of the workplaces was not realized to get some information. 122
