SUMMARY This thesis has been submitted as a postgraduate study to the Institute of Social Sciences, EU-Economics & Finance Department at the University of A“Vara. Within this context I have dealt with ”The Accession of Czech Republic and Slovakia to the Union, regarding Turkey's relations with the European Union." Yet the official separation of this Country, at 1th of January 1993, as Czech and Slovak Republic has inevitably forced me make some changes about the subject matter of my Thesis. Consequently I have examined two different and sovereign countries under the same title. In my work I have reviewed the economical & political development of Czechoslovakia until 1993. Then I have inquired (examined) the two newly formed republics, named Czech and Slovak Republics, in terms of their foreign trade, capital inflow, privatization and their economic outlook. I have also studied their relations with the Union based on the Treaties which the Czech and Slovak Republics signed with the European Union and with other Institutions. Within this context I have tried to review the latest developments in the European Union, its relations with Turkey with special reference to the Ankara Agreement which was signed between EEC and Turkey including the Additional Protocal. Then I have intended to compare the European Agreement signed between the Community and the Czech and Slovak Republics, with the above mentioned developments and the Ankara Agreement. I have also tried to underline the position of these Republics together with the Central and Eastern European Countries, within the Community comparing Turkey's membership and role in line with the same frame work. 109 i*!£SS Set
