Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı ilkokul 4. sınıf fen bilimleri dersinde uygulanan STEM (Fen, Teknoloji, Mühendislik, Matematik) temelli etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin bilimsel süreç becerilerine, akademik başarılarına ve problem çözme becerilerine etkisini incelemektir. Çalışma deneme modelindedir ve ön test- son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desende uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Karaman il merkezindeki bir ilkokulun dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 'Temel Beceriler Ölçeği', 'Akademik Başarı Testi' ve 'Problem Çözme Becerileri Ölçeği' kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinden elde edilen sonuçlara göre; 1. Deney ve kontrol grubundaki öğrencilerin uygulamaya başlamadan önce temel süreç becerisi, akademik başarı ve problem çözme beceri düzeylerinin denk olduğunu göstermektedir. 2. Deney grubu öğrencilerinin son test akademik başarı testi puanları, kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin puanlarından anlamlı düzeyde yüksek çıkmıştır. Bu sonuç basit elektrik devreleri konusundaki akademik başarı üzerinde STEM temelli etkinlik yönteminin etkili olduğunu göstermektedir (U=109,000 p>.05). 3. Deney ve kontrol gruplarına uygulanan öğretim sonunda, STEM temelli etkinliklerin uygulandığı deney grubu öğrencilerinin son test Temel Beceriler Ölçeği puan ortalamaları arasında anlamlı bir fark yoktur (U=203,500 p>.05). Bu sonuç, STEM temelli etkinliklerin temel süreç becerileri üzerinde etkisi olmadığını göstermektedir.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) based activities applied in elementary school 4th grade science lessons on students' scientific process skills, academic achievements and problem solving skills. The study is in experimental model and quasi-experimental design with pre/post-test control groups is applied. The study group of the research is the 4th grade students of a primary school in Karaman province. The“Basic Skills Test the ”Academic Achievement Test“ and the ”Problem Solving Inventory" are used as data collection tool. According to the results obtained from analysis of research data; 1. According to the results obtained from the research, the basic process skills, academic success and problem solving skills of the students in the test and the control groups were equal to each other before the execution. 2. The academic success post-test scores of the test group students to whom the STEM based activities were applied have been significantly higher than the control group students to whom the Science Education Program of the Ministry of National Education. This outcome reveals that the STEM based activity method has been effective on the academic success regarding the simple electric circuits (U=109,000 p>.05). 3. At the end of the instruction applied to the test and the control groups it is proven that there is no significant difference in terms of the basic skills test average final scores of the test group to whom the STEM based activities were applied (U=203,500 p>.05). This outcome proves that the STEM based activities have no effect on basic process skills.
